Hi

I'm trying to get more info on leaving my current job of 8 months that is sponsoring me on a 457 and moving to another job. Can I start my new job by applying for a 186 under Direct Entry? Would my new employer have to have "provided training" to sponsor me on a 186? I have held my 457 for two and a half years. First with one employer, now a second. Looking at my third. Any info would be greatly appropriated.

If you apply for a 186 visa, you'll get a bridging visa but it will sit in the background until your 457 either expires naturally or the 186 is granted. Until then, you must comply with the conditions of your 457 which means you can only work for the employer who is sponsoring you.

Thank you Maggie May24. From what I've read online to apply for a 186 or transfer my 457 to another restaurant, the place would have be an approved business sponsor. Looks like either way I have to find that. Might have a couple more questions in the future so I may post again here.
