Hi everyone and expert members of the forum!
I have a few questions regarding conducting medical examination (for me) and multiple police checks (for my partner) for the 820/801 De Facto Partner Visa in a situation when we are both currently offshore.
Here's our background:
- We dated from September 2014, started de facto May 2015 (opened joint account, declared relationship, etc) and moved in together June 2016.
- We applied online for 820/801 De Facto Partner Visa on 20 June 2017, frontloading all documents including my Malaysian police check and AFP police check (I was in Sydney for my masters back in 2008/2009) except for my Medical Examination.
- I applied for 2 Bridging Visa B due to change in travel schedule and was granted both times (most recently on 26 September 2017). I'm due to travel (for work) from tomorrow 13 October until 8 November.
- My partner is currently in Canada for an offshore project (he is a consultant), and he has been away since mid-August. We kept in touch, continued to plan our lives and upcoming holidays as any couples would.
Now, as the situation would have it - 14 hours before I'm due to fly out, I received an email from the immigration (apparently our visa is processed by Australian High Commision in Malaysia!) requesting further information for our 820/801 application in 28 days including:
- Medical check (for me)
- Polio vaccination (for me - I have traveled more than 3x to Africa due to work requirements)
- Character check for sponsor (Australia and Singapore/India - he has lived for more than a year in Singapore 2012-2013 for work and is from India)
- Form 40SP completed and signed by sponsor
As you can imagine, I'm in a state of overwhelm because I'm travelling for the next 3 and half weeks (basically cutting close the 28 days deadline) and my partner will not be back from Canada until mid-November.
So my questions are:
I will need to clarify these questions with Immi themselves next week, but I thought I will share my concerns here for now and get your expert advice/experience to help me not worry so much as I want to spend some quality time with my parents and family when I'm back in Malaysia tomorrow!

So my questions are:
- - As my application is made onshore, is it possible for me to do my medical examination and polio vaccination in Malaysia when I'm away?
- - Does my partner need to provide police check for Singapore AND India or Singapore only? We will need to figure out how he can get that done while he's in Canada.
- - My partner has filled up the online Form 40SP application that was then linked to my application. Does he need to fill up the paper form as requested by Immi in latest correspondence?
