applied Dec 14th, paper and yes, I submitted form 80 about 3 weeks ago.
Hi guys I have applied 12th of April,2015 online onshore. Still waiting. Haven't heard anything since I have applied. I have a question regarding 801. It says 801 will be issued after 2 years from the day lodgement. does it count from 12th of april, 2015 in my case or from the day i get issued 820?

801 does not get issued 2 years from 820 it is 2 years after you applied (not granted) for your 820 and then processing time - currently quoted at 12 to 15 months for 801.

Thanks for reply. So 12-15 months waiting period for 80 also counts towards 801?

Yeah you probably won't hear anything back till later in the year considering most people are getting approved after about 12-13 months. And yes you are eligible for 801 2 years from the date you submit your 820 application which in your case was April 2015 and usually you can start submitting further evidence for your 801 3 mths before that however there's also a wait for 801 and I believe atm it is about 6mths wait

Nope. Waiting time starts from eligibility date. Maybe the backlog will have cleared some by the time your eligibility date comes.
thanks Mish. Sorry for being silly. What is eligiblity date? when does it start? on my online account there is only submission date and nothing else

Eligibility date is 2 years after you submitted your 820. So if you submitted your 820 on 20 April 2014 your eligibility date is 20 April 2016. You can sibmit your documents for 801 up to 2 months prior to your eligibility but based on the fact they don't look at it until after the eligibility date there is really no benefit of submitting it early.

Hey Mish,
I applied in March 2015, I know I've got longer to wait...
What I'm wondering is, as my year is coming up, do I start submitting for the 801 now even though they haven't looked at my 820 yet?

No. 1/ You can't submit 801 docs until your 820 is granted and 2/ Can't be any earlier than 2 months prior to the eligibility date.

Mish is correct
But also you must understand that what they want is the history for the 2 years after you applied for the 820 visa
And they want documents like an australian police check that is as new possible ,
not a 2 year old one..

Hi everyone,

Some great insights here into the 820 onshore waiting periods.

I am trying to understand Worst case scenarios but some waiting times seem very short, and others really long! i.e. Niki76 below with 15-18 months!

Is there a general consensus on average / 'normal for most' waiting time?

Thanks,

G

Hi ya.
I am in the same boat, Nelly87.
I applied for 820/801 in February this year (2013) and was granted the BVA which kicked in in April when my visitor visa expired. I am originally from Malaysia and did not go for the subclass300 beforehand.
I got married to my Australian husband in 2012. I was here since Feb last year, but as i came on a visitor visa, i left OZ every 3 mths (based on my ETA) till the day we applied for the 820/801.
I called up immi and they mentioned that processing time is 15-18mths from application date. So i guessed i'd only be hearing from them mid 2014.

I have been looking for a pt job/casual job but no luck so far.
My only worry is whether i will find a suitable job soon...

I guess there's really nothing we can do (since it's not within our control) except to wait patiently for the 820/801 to be processed and approved.

I always believe everything happens for a reason. So probably all this waiting is to teach me to be more patient in life (as I am a very impatient person).....meanwhile i try to enjoy life everyday and slow down a bit in life.

I do hope we all get the approval soon and good luck to us all who's in the same boat.

Cheers!

Since mid 2015, most 820 visa grants have been issued at 12/13 months with a few earlier or later.

Thanks for replying guys, really appreciate it.
So, basically I wouldn't submitting docs for 801 until at least Jan 2017?
for some reason I thought my eligibility date was for PR?
I thought I had it all worked out but it can be so confusing!

My partner and I are going to lodge our application really soon. But a few big questions are:
What bridging visa did you guys get right after the lodgement? (As my partner applied for a sponsorship visa a few months back and recently got refused. So he hasnt have an actual visa atm. He paid a visit to the immi office and one of the staff told him he will get a bridging visa C and no work right with bridging visa C. if this would be the case, how could he support himself financially for the next year or 2 until the visa get approved?)
and
We are pretty tight with the money atm so we are hoping that we don't have to get the health check done before the lodgement? Can we do that after we paid for the application fees?
Cheers,
Nicky

Yes the eligibility date for the 801 is for PR, (as the 801 is the Permanent visa) it's when you're eligible to apply not when it will be granted.

Yours is March 2017 by the sounds of it, so yes, you can start the application process in January 2017 if you wish, although given the wait times at the moment applying early seems to make no difference. They wont look at it until March or later anyway.
