I feel you Marcellus. Really frustrating and annoying.

I'm from Malaysia (low risk country) and as of today, I have been waiting for almost 17 months.

I applied on 19th Dec 2015. I got an email once from them asked me to do medical. And after that, nothing until today.

I do understand that the department is busy currently but when you hear other people from high risk country got approved less than a year, it make you think that this is unfair and start thinking of what kind of system they are using in prioritize the application.
I am not sure if low risk or high risk countries affect the processing time of the application.
But i know that they only prioritize if the application are in urgent matters (such as relationship breakdown, domestic violence)
I think the processing time depends on how complicated and complex the application is, also on the way application and evidences are presented.
I am from a high risk country and I was waiting for more than 13 months. I took a bet and emailed the immigration office to ask about my application and within 3 weeks later, I got my 820 granted.
You may consider to email the immigration office to ask why it takes so long to process your application.
Hope this emails. Good luck

I did email them actually last week on Wednesday (3rd May). This is what I wrote:

Hi,

I have applied for visa 820/801 on 19th Dec 2015 and since then I have been waiting for more than 16 months for my temporary visa 820 to be granted.

Would there be any reasons that is delaying the process? Please let me know if you need further clarification to help make my application 'decision-ready'.

Below are the details of my application:
Application ID:
File Number:

I am contactable at xxx if you need to speak.

Regards,

---

Haven't got any response yet but I guess I'm not going to get any reply because from the automatic generated response I've received, they said:

"Due to large volumes of enquiries, we will not respond to your email if your query is answered by the information below".

And from one of the information provided in that email, it mentioned about global processing time. And I guess they will only respond to application that has been due for more than 20 months.

That's sad!

Actually I don't mind waiting because I have been doing that for 16 months but since I have to visit my family next month, I really need 820 visa be granted before I fly. I don't want to pay another 140 for BVB.

That is so tough for you. 16 month waiting time is insanely long.
This visa really depends on luck to be honest.
May I ask which office processes your application?

Mine one is in Perth, Wa and the case officer is really quick.

P/S: don't lose hopes and keep fighting for it. I believe you will get it.

Thanks!

I applied through VIC office.

This is my timeline:

Application Date - 19th Dec 2015
BVA Granted - 21st Dec 2015
Request for Medical - 21st Dec 2015
Medical Done - 5th Jan 2016

That's it. They don't even asked for police check (Malaysia or Australia). I guess they didn't ask for police check from Malaysia because I was here on Work & Holiday visa for 1 year and I have done that before. But why they didn't ask for NPC? Should I just apply it even when they haven't asked for it?

I would go ahead and supply both. It might actually give them a "nudge" as then your application would be decision ready. They are trying to clear as many decision ready applications as they can by June 30th. It wouldn't hurt to do it and I can almost guarantee you that they will ask for them. I did my medicals without them being requested and the day DIBP received the results from BUPA, I got a call from a CO requesting Form 80/AFP checks. So, wouldn't hurt for you to do them, get them uploaded and then see what happens. That's a long time to wait!

It also amazes me that people are saying they received their 820 in 6 months! We are on 13 months now and I've pretty much just forgotten about it. I was checking every couple weeks to see the progress and it's just depressing. I'm from the US, a quite low risk country! (of course now.....well, that's another story) I did get my BVB so we can travel to the US on holiday, but I've just given up that my 820 will every come through. Maybe another year? who knows.

I hear you. I expected to wait a lot longer. But, meeting Schedule 3 criteria probably prompted them to look at mine quicker. That being said, I submitted my S3 criteria back in November, the day after they requested it (we knew it was coming) and didn't hear a thing from them until I did my medicals. The day DIPB received my medical results, the CO called me asking for the AFPs/Form 80s. I really believe the medicals coming in is what triggered my grant. Might not hurt for you to give them a call, or send an email to check. Since they are trying to clear as many partner visas as they can by the end of June, it might prompt them to have a look at your application. I've heard of a few people now who contacted DIPB, then got their grant right after. I would think you'll have your grant any day now. It makes no sense how some are done in 6-7 months while others take ages.

Hi Guys!

I am from Canada and my partner and I applied Oct 2016. I received an email last night requesting my medical exam. I cant complete the medical until at least next week.

I was wondering, from other's experiences, how long after the medical was your visa approved?

I had to do a medical for my student visa a few years ago and I remember my visa was approved a few days later. Hoping for a similar situation this time!

Thanks in advance! :)

we had medicals, forms, police checks, etc. all submitted within 2 months of submitting the application. Received an email in February (thought they had approved), nope wanted 2 copies of 888. Had those to them within 2 days. Over 3 months now. This all began in April last year. I'm so over it! Thanks, I may call them.

Awesome news! BUPA will send the medical results to DIBP within 3-5 working days. Usually, it happens pretty fast right after that. You'll be fine getting the medicals next week. You have 28 days to supply the info requested.

Best of luck!! Looks like you'll have your grant soon! :)

Just applied

I have just applied for the partner Visa on Sunday and have been adding all our documents ever since the money went through via BPay monday afternoon. I feel such a relief now that I have done it. It's been such a tough and draining couple of months trying to get everything together and all the research that goes into it and my partner works full time so it's been mainly me working on it trying to get it all together.
I was wondering how everyones experience was with the online application? I was so angry when looking at the place where attach all documents. It's very clear that any information given to you online or via immigration is mainly based on paper applications - it was so different! I had everything perfectly organised according to how the checklist worked and it was just completely different online. So little information online about what exactly you have to do with the online application. It's been so frustrating. For example, regardless of intensive research, I only just recently noticed that with online applications it is not required to certify copies and that a colour scan is enough. If I had known that earlier I would have had less stress. So confusing. What a bad process.

It could be very confusing, although the website has made a number of minimal improvements recently, so in addition to uploading documents, it helps (I guess) to read the Documents Checklist under the Related Links Menu of the Online Lodgement page.

I never had to certify documents before uploading, EXCEPT for things like Statutory Declarations and Form 888s, though the whole process is no less stressful and confusing. Not to mention the long wait without hearing anything from Immi

I think the worst part is hearing nothing and waiting.........and waiting.........and.....! You send them all the information they want and then you get nothing in return. I've never heard from them except for the request for my medical a few weeks after I submitted my application almost a year ago.

It varies, but if you front loaded your app and the only thing you need is the medical, the grant may come within a few days. But of course some wait longer.

They are slowly making updates to the DIBP website and specifying differences for online applications.

I read it a few days ago and the scanning thing is on there (original scanned color copies do not need to be certified).
