Hi everyone,

I know that its been asked before, but just wondering if anyone can share their recent experience in applying for permanent job while on bridging visa for 820?

I’m in such situation and i found it very frustrating that on Seek, most emoloyer would ask about your visa status in their questionnaire, and it seems that unless your answer is Citizen/PR most employer will just reject your resume without even taking a look at it

Just wondering if anyone can share their current/past experience looking for permanent job while they are on bridging visa

Thank you 🙂

Most employers will just reject your resume without even taking a look at it, if they have a Permanent vacancy and you have a temporary visa.

For many jobs, they have so many applications that they need to reject as many as they can, as easily as they can.

Vacancies for jobs with insufficient applicants will be different.

I had no issues getting a permanent job on my bridging visa. However, I'm a teacher and our school was in desperate need. The department of education here in WA seems to be much better about that sort of thing. I know of several others (teachers and even a school nurse) who were able to gain permanent positions while waiting on resident visas. I guess it all depends on the type of employment, the agency and the location. And as J&E stated, how many qualified applicants they have. Best of luck to you!

Interesting, I got offered permanent work here as an EA at our regional school that my partner teaches at (was casual for about a year whilst looking for work) but then a much better paying job was offered in the mines department for WA. I had a choice of perm EA work or fixed contract Mines work. You are completely correct though, the education department is really good with employing people on bridging visa's or even working holiday visa's.

Hi everyone,

This will be the case for literally any visa you are on. If you are not a PR/Citizen it's very very difficult to find a job. It's even worst if you're on a bridging visa because to them your PR/820 application could be rejected at any date and it's a waste of HR/training effort to invest in you.

A lot of companies have policies that they will only invite PR/Citizen as well, so they won't even consider you.

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum. I recently got married and I'm in the process of applying for a partner visa. I will be the sponsor and my wife will be the one who is applying for a partner visa. But while filling the online application I have few queries what exactly needs to get filled in some section. Particularly there is one question
"Non-migrating members of the family unit".
Do I need to fill details of my parents or my wife parents?

Quick help will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

No I don't think you need to. "Members of the family unit", for Australian visa purposes, refers to partner or child in most cases. Google Form 1496i and see. Parents are not included. This is for most visas, I can't be certain that it's all but highly likely.

I think it totally depends on the employer. I work for the state government and when I applied to my job I just showed my BVA grant letter and never heard anything else! I'm ongoing/perm employed. I think with the use of VIVO it makes it much easier to check staff are eligible

Got my 820 grant through yesterday, have been stalking these forums for a while now whilst waiting for my 820. I am a British dude and my partner is Aussie.

Timeline: Applied 21st May 2018
Request for more information End of May 2019
Grant of 820: 21st August 2019

I almost laughed as it came through. I got a job for the WA government in April this year and due to my visa (bridging visa A) I couldn't apply for a permanent position until I have permanent residency. They were extending my contract every 3 months but November this year is when they have to advertise the position. I sent an email off (from my work email which has a "wa.gov.au" ending asking who I might be able to speak to about this issue and what I could do to about my situation. Literally an hour later I get the grant notice, along with a reply to my work email stating my 820 was granted. So happy, as now they will allow me to apply for the permanent position, and whilst I cannot accept a permanent position until I get 801, they can offer me a long fixed term position whilst I wait for it.

I am curious whether I could have just sent an email ages ago to get the grant notice haha. and I sent the email to the address shown in my request for information.
Congratulations! I tried that trick... also a state government employee here. I got an email back saying "the email address you used is not associated with your application"

Worth a try!

Can anyone provide some advice...not sure if we've been forgotten.

We have been waiting for our 820/801 since applying in January 2018. There has been no news since then. We applied from a PMV300. It's been about 20 months now! I dont think I've seen anyone wait this long coming from a PMV 300. Application is pretty straightforward - been in long term relationship before getting married.

That does sound bad. From a PMV, the 820 is normally pretty fast.

Have you sent an enquiry asking if you have been forgotten?

We sent an email a couple of months back which went unanswered. Not sure what else can be done except to send several more until we get a reply?

Hi there.

I'm in a similar situation to Monev. The application was submitted in Nov 2017 and we haven't gotten any news yet. Since the estimate is between 22 and 28 months we expected it to be rather late but I'm not sure it's normal. Every 6 months we get a "In process" on the immi site, which seems automated.
We never contacted them because we figured it's better to not seem like we are impatient, but I'm not sure anymore.

What is the right course of action?

That timing means that 75% were done in under 22 months in the previous month.

I've noticed quite a few people get grants shortly after sending in a genuine enquiry for something specific.

sorry to bother you but I am wondering whether my partner should
apply for the fiance visa or offshore partner visa if we marry abroad
before i return to Australia . Assuming you and your spouse lived in
different countries , how did you satisfy the joint finances test which is
a crazy test really and especially for oldies like me with a few divorces
sadly as one never knows what might happen in a marriage ??. have had to wait 5 years after deception by former russian wife wife ! ( wry smile ) .
Hoping you will answer and congratulations on getting the visa .

A PMV does not need joint finances, nor a living together requirement.

It is the route we took.

Congrats on your grant mate! Do you know by any chance if your case officer or anyone from the department has contacted you, your partner or anyone who wrote the 888 form for you, by email or phone before they gave you the grant (apart from the additional document request)?
