How long is a piece of string haha who knows how long they will take but if they have made the s52 requests then you should be very close to a decision, maybe a few days. Once we had the police check and health check in, it was less than a week till approval of 820.

Hi guys i have applied for 801/820 in October back in 2019 and then i had CO assigned exactly 12 months after in October 2020. Now few months ago they have requested me to provide them my Police Clearance Certificate from my home country whichever i have already provided and they also requested for medical assessment that i have just done few days ago on 6th of may. Just wondering do you reckon they will issue it now and how long does it takes more after medical assessment as its already been 19 months since i have applied.
Thanks in advance 😇

got the grant after 3 days. I did medical monday then received a grant friday. 😊

Wow that's good stuff, we're a bit over 2 weeks since all the stuff was sent in as far as I know.

Some amazing news at 7.30am this morning. I received my grant for the 820 after what feels like forever (20 months).

After receiving the s56 and supplying what they asked for 3 months ago, it has been an especially frustrating wait. I figured it wouldn't hurt to send some sort of document to maybe ping a notification for the CO I was never explicitly assigned, and it looks like it worked?! I supplied a relationship update yesterday afternoon, and BAM...visa!

My timeline is as follows:
Nationality: Indian
Partner: Australian Citizen

Met my partner: May 2017
Moved in together: April 2019 (De facto starts here)
Application submitted: September 2019 - Front loaded, including police clearances for Aus and abroad (and uploaded when validity expires)
12 month notification - September 2020
Relationship update uploaded - September 2020
s56 RFI/Initial Assessment - For Medicals - February 2021
Status Final Assessment - February 2021
Final nerve-racking wait - February 2021 to May 2021
Supplied one last relationship update doc - 07/05/21
820 Grant - 08/05/21 (Woo!)

Thanks to this forum, you've all been great for many reasons. Will definitely hang around and give pointers wherever I can.
All the best everyone!

Hey guys
I am so happy to announce today i finally received my 820 Grant letter. I have applied back in 2019 October and got it today on 12th May. Its been a long annoying wait but eventually once you got your grant letter it all get settle and you forget everything lol.
Therefor now my Question is now when i will be eligible for 801 as this September it will be 24 months being married and we have little 6 months old as well. I have red somewhere that if you’re relationship get 24 months old or over and if you have baby so you can apply staright away is that right just need any opinion if that’s true.
Yeah Just to give follow up from my last message as i have done my Medical last Thursday and here i got my grant on Wednesday within a week it got granted.

A 24 month relationship, with child, at the time of 820 application, is eligible for PR grant.

Otherwise, you are eligible to have the 801 assessed from Oct 2021. 2 years after the 820 application.

Double grant received today!!!!!!! Seriously never thought this day would come 😂 Timeline below:

De Facto Relationship started: May 2017
Started Living together: September 2017
820/801 application: February 2019
s56 request for all evidence: January 2021
s56 request for medical and AFP check: February 2021
Double grant May 2021!
(Processing center was London)

Some info about our experience - we did not front load our application, which in hindsight may have been why ours took 27 months to process, I uploaded all evidence after we received the s56 request. We did not use an agent, did it all ourselves - to be honest, I don't think we would have benefited from an agent, our application was very straightforward. I'm American, partner/sponsor is Aussie born, no kids, and we are engaged but not married yet, heaps of evidence provided.

I did find it really interesting that I received a double grant - we had NOT been in a de facto for 3 years when we first applied as required for a double grant, however it took so long for the 820 to be processed that I was eligible already for the 801 portion so I think they just approved both at the same time since all of our evidence was up to date anyways.

Also to note, it had been about 6 weeks since uploading the requested documents and I had not heard anything - I uploaded a few more random documents of updated evidence today (recent joint bank statement and recent joint utility bill), I think this triggered a notification to them because I received the double grant just a few hours later.

SO excited this portion is finally over!!!!! Hang in there everyone, it'll happen!

Hi all,

My partner (applicant, Japanese) and I (sponsor, Australian) received our first s56 RFI in April for:
  • AFP Police Check
  • Japanese Police Clearance
  • Medical
  • My sponsor form

We managed to sort it all out pretty quickly and have just been waiting on the Japanese Police Certificate. This just arrived today, and when my partner collected it from the embassy, they noted to him that is shouldn't be opened by us - and should only be opened by Immigration themselves, as otherwise it could be considered invalid.

Given that we have made the application only online over the immi account, I'm not sure what to do about it/ where to send it? Has anyone had any experiences like this and could share their advice with me?

I suppose it made sense back in the paper only application days, but I'm not sure if it's still valid with the online applications now being the mainstream.

Thank you in advance!

good morning! happy to announce an update to my timeline. will finally collate useful details here:

  • american wife, aus citizen husband, mid 20s. relationship began late 2015, started living together early 2016, aus defacto mid 2016, married late 2016. no kids, no previous marriages, no crimes.

  • filed 15 january 2021. frontloaded all evidence of commitment but no time sensitive stuff. booked medical appointment shortly after filing, but they were so booked my appointment wasn't until may. i uploaded evidence of the booking.

  • received police/medical rfi 22 april 2021, they noted they were aware of my medical appointment. aus police checks took no time at all, uploaded asap. medical appointment took 35 minutes total at the sydney cbd bupa clinic, easily the most efficient doctor's appointment of my life.

  • as for the usa national police check, i want to give more details here as i found so little info about it online: i initiated the fbi identity check electronically on 22 april 2021, paid and received a confirmation code email, which gets sent along with the prints. i then enquired whether my local nsw police station could help with the prints, and they said yes, for something like ~$40 per set, as long as all forms and mailing envelopes are fully completed prior. i showed up with the standard fbi form, but they took the prints electronically and printed out a hard copy on their own form. i still sent the standard fbi form with all written details fully completed just to be safe. prints were taken 5 may 2021 and dispatched from the police station in an international express document mailer the following day. they were delivered 11 may 2021, and i received an email notifying me that my results were accessible via secure link late last night, 14 may 2021. i immediately uploaded the documents to my application and marked my rfi complete.

  • received 820 grant this morning, 15 may 2021. i waited for the double grant email to no avail, even though we should be eligible based on the length of our relationship at the time of application. i've since sent through a request to have my application re-reviewed for immediate 801 grant via the official web form and will wait patiently for a reply.

so, nearly done, but not quite! i really hope i'll be able to have one final update to share very soon, but i'm also finding it difficult to complain at all based on how surprisingly quick the process has been so far.

Heyy, Congrats on your grant!
Could you please elaborate on how many pages you went for your statement, partner's statement and also the witness statement? did you follow a format or did you just go your way explaining the milestones of the relationship? what did you witnesses add to their statement?
I appreciate the details, thanks.

Defacto relationship began: July 2019
820/801 application: December 2020
Medicals: April 2021

That's awesome. We were much the same, medicals etc were last month (about a month ago now I'd guess) and everything front loaded by my partners Agent. Still waiting though here.
Congrats.

820 granted after 10 months.

Applicant: American
Sponsor: Australian

Met in game June 2017
Met in person/started relationship December 2017
De facto as of 23 July 2018
Married July 2019
Had our kid February 2020
Lodged application 19 July 2020 (due to visa at the time expiring) front loaded except for medical
November 2020 received generic message that application was progressing and to make sure we had included everything, at which point I got my health check done
820 granted 20 May 2021

Was really hoping to receive a double grant as we were just 4 days shy of having been in a de facto relationship for 2 years (with a child) at the time of lodging, but very grateful and relieved to receive this. Giving everyone here thanks and best wishes.

Congratulations.

If I was you, I would contact immigration and ask, as nicely as you can, if you could be considered for a double grant, as it was only 4 days out.

It might just be worth it, and you lose nothing by asking.
