I'm impatient waiting for my temporary visa too.
I applied on 15th of September 2014 to Brisbane office.
Paper application.
Police check and health check all done together with the application.
My case is quite straightforward and all the evidence was nicely layout. But heard nothing from immigration office except your application is valid and BVA granted.
We sent a form and an email for address change and heard nothing back.
I really hope they didnt lose my application!!!

Hi guys. I'm still reading the 100+ pages of comments and replies of this thread and it was already giving me jitters but at the same time its loading my tank of information. I sent my application just last June 2015 and I’m already anxious about it. Hahaha.. Maybe I’ll be expecting myself to be in here for quite some time..

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone knows...How do I know that a case officer is assigned to me?

I looked through the online portal, and there is no indication there. Not sure what indication I should be expecting.

Regards

Hi Kathleen

Only way to know is when they contact you.

Some people don't know who their case officer is until they get the grant.

I applied on 10th Oct 2014, case officer request health check just few days after that, then wait. Granted on 27th July 2015(last night). I thought the email from immi is request police check or something but its visa grant notice! Much quicker than I though, less than 10 months. Im from China, husband is local, my case is quit simple, no children, no previous marriage. Hope everyone good luck^_^
Hi jcap,

Can you also let us know which office you applied for your visa?

I just called up immi, who told me that it is dependent on where you apply as well.

Regards
Kathleen

G'day all

Status when applying - 457 visa (granted January 2012)
September 17 2014 - Applied for 820/801
September 18 2014 - Asked to submit medical
July 1 2015 - 801 Permanent Residency Granted

They told me that they had fast tracked me past the 820 (which was granted on the same day as the 801) and gave me immediate permanent residency, which I didn't expect until September 2016. Very happy with this.

The reason for fast tracking is because there was considerable evidence that we had lived together for over 2 years and because we have a child together.

As an FYI, this was applied for in paper format in Melbourne.

Congrats!! It is stated in booklet 1 that you get past 820 to 801 if you have lived together for 2 years wand have children together or have lived together for 3 years with no kids together.

If you have evidence of co habitation for 2 years straight and a child you usually get considered for 801 straight away but the 2 years living together is a must. And3 years living together if no children.

What I mean is, not everyone eligible for PR will jump 820 to 801 straight away as one of my friend didn't.
Oh what was the reasoning given to your friend? Did your friend have kids and lived together for 2 years? Or lived together for 3 years?

I have read cases in this forum where ppl got approved 820 even though they clearly qualified for 801 right away and they actually contacted their case officer which fixed it and approved their 801 away. Same thing happened to my friend a year ago too she got 820 but she contacted dibp and got 801 approved the next day. But again everyone's case is different and it is up to their discretion to decide so I agree with you.

hi jcap2014.... you have the 801 right away without going through 820? have you been here in Australia for quite some time and been in de facto with your sponsor?

You usually get 801 straight away if 1. you have evidence of cohabitation for 2 years straight and have a child together or 2. have evidence of cohabitation for 3 years straight. Does not matter how long you have lived in Australia it wouldn't affect the 801/820

An excerpt from booklet 1:

In most cases, permanent residence cannot be granted less than 2 years from when you lodge your
application. You may, however, be granted a permanent visa without having to fulfil the usual two-year
waiting period if:

at the time you apply, you have been in a partner relationship with your partner for
3 years or more, or 2 years or more if you and your partner have a dependent child of your
relationship; or

your partner holds or held a permanent humanitarian visa and you were in the relationship before
the visa was granted and this relationship was declared to the department at the time (applies to
subclass 100 visas only)

Hope this helps :)

A big help yeah. Really got confused, maybe that is because I've been reading the whole thread and everything mixed up. J

Hey, your bridging visa wont come into affect until 8th july when your tourist visa expires. Same with me, my tpurist visa ended 19th feb and my bridging visa became active 20th feb. Unfortunately you'll get no more notification it just all happens automatically.
Hi! I'm about to lodge my 820 application in person in September (Fuhreaking out! LOL) Just a quick question, with the bridging visa A, does that give you full working rights? I'm currently on a Tourist visa now. Any response will be greatly appreciated! <3
