Hello Everyone :)

Need some advice on a long-term overseas stay during my 820 application.

My partner is an Australian resident(Sponsor). I have applied for 820 in June 2018. we have provided good evidence of our 5-year defacto relationship. Apart from my medicals, we have submitted all the documents.

Unfortunately, I have been struggling over past 4 months to find a professional job on bridging visa. Been to 3 interviews and was rejected due to bridging visa status. Since I am in my early 30's I am really worried that my career will take a massive hit and will be even harder to find a job later with a gap of 18-24 months processing time(assuming I get the visa by then).

Recently got an amazing overseas offer, If I accept the offer i will have to join the company by Jan 2019. now I am not sure whether to take this opportunity, be in long distance or wait for the process to complete.

I would be really thankful if anyone can share their experience being in the similar situation or suggestions on how to deal with immigration.

820 Application: June 2018.
Current Visa: BVA.
Work status: Casual Part-time

Thanks in advance!

You'd need a BVB for the duration, because you have to be in Australia for the grant of the visa. Or you have to risk having to apply for an ETA or tourist visa, which may or may not be granted.

Depending how long you will apart, you'll have to create some good evidence that the relationship is ongoing.

Thanks a lot for your response, Nick!

I am actually planning to stay 1 year overseas and yes on a BVB, while me and partner will plan a holiday in the middle.

Also, would this separate stay affect the processing time or application in any way?

If they grant you a BVB for such a long period then you should probably be ok.

It can't see it affecting processing time as such, but the long separation may raise questions about your relationship.

Hopefully a decision will be forthcoming soon.
