Hi,

Im an Australian citizen and my partner (american) an were going to apply for a visa for him to live here and eventually for us to get married.

Applying for a visa seems quite intricate and we want to make sure we do it right, the best and fastest way possible. Ive been told about fragomen that they were great to deal with? Has anyone used them before, have exp with them or used any other realiable agents?

Just wanting to see how everyones experiences are, how much they cost etc. So we can put it into our budget,

From my understanding after doing some research wed apply for the 820 (temporary) and when that is approved he can come here to live and work until the 801 is being processed at the same time?

We do want to get married, will that and him being from the US help in regards to his visa being accepted?

also when your trying to prove your relationship with text messages, weve been together for about 2 years, is there any good way to search for messages and stuff on an iphone?

A lot of folks here have used agents. There are some great ones who post here regularly.

Also, you should note the 820/801 visa is a visa you apply for while your partner is in Australia. The 309/100 is the offshore version.

Being married won’t make a difference if you don’t have the evidence to meet the requirements to be granted a visa.

Have you and your partner met in person at all?

What you need to look at first and know the differences are these 3 visas.

820

309

PMV (or 300)

Being from the US all 3 can be options currently but the 820 may soon be a bit of an issue due a recent law change.

If an 820 application was made they will be in Australia and would be granted a Bridging Visa A that has full work rights when the current visa expires. That visa might be an ETA so work rights would be 3 months after last landing in Australia.

From the date of the 820 application they are eligible for Medicare.

Do a bit of homework first, then if you need a RMA you will understand a bit about what they are explaining.

There is a sticky on this forum that recommends a few agents 5 from memory, I have use 2 and they were excellent.
