Can someone with a medical reason get any sort of exemption while applying for citizenship? I have had lot of travels (health related) and haven't met the resident requirements yet. If I travel more (which is very likely)my application date would be pushed back further. Is there any way I can provide them with the evidence and apply for citizenship? Form 1290 says something about physical incapacity but am not sure about it...:confused:

From form 1290:

"Step 1 - Eligibility
You should use this form if you:
• are aged 60 and over - you will need to show you
understand the nature of your application, or
• have a permanent or enduring physical or mental
incapacity, or
• have a permanent loss or substantial hearing, speech
or sight impairment.
If you belong to any of the above categories, you will also
need to:
• be a permanent resident, and
satisfy the residence requirement, and
• be likely to reside, or to continue to reside, in Australia or to
maintain a close and continuing association with Australia."

So it looks like you still need to meet the residency requirement.

Ok, I've never heard of a health-related exemption and I didn't see any reference to it on form 1290. It sounds like a fairly rare situation so you may not find anyone here who's had experience with it. If DIBP can explain to you what options you may have, perhaps it's possible.
