Hi everyone, I need to know some information because there isn't much on the internet. So the story is that I got my PR visa Subclass 175 5 year PR visa in 2010. I came to Australia the same year but only stayed for 2 months and went back to my home country. In 2013, I came back and lived for 1 1/2 years till June 2014 and went back to my home country. My PR expired in 2015 June.
After that, I applied for RRV in July 2018 and finally made a move that same month to Australia this time permanently. Now it's going to be 3 years this year in July that I have lived in Australia. I am wondering if I can apply for citizenship now. The reason why I ask this is that one of the clauses in the citizenship act 2007 is that
"Not been absent from Australia for more than 12 months in the last 4 years before you apply''
In my case, I have been absent 12 months before coming here. When I used the residence calculator, it says that I can apply in July 2021 but still not 100% sure.

Just brief travel dates are as follows,

PR date: 27 July 2010 ( original)
RRV PR date: 28 July 2018
Lawful Residence date: 27 July 2010
Intended application date: 29 July 2021

Date outside Australia:
27 September 2010 - 6 January 2013
25 November 2013 - 22 January 2014
26 June 2014 - 28 July 2018

On the immigration website, it does say that I am eligible to apply on 29 July 2021 but when I called the Department of home affairs (a very unhelpful line) they said I should wait another year and complete 4 years of stay and apply on 29 July 2022.

Immigration say you need to have lived 4 years in Australia.

I have always thought that they start the 4 years from a date that you are inside Australia, and your case seems to confirm this.
Going back 4 years from now, would be 30 Jun 2017. You were not in Australia on that date. You next arrived on 29 July 2018, giving an earliest eligibility date of 29 July 2022.

I have no confidence in that residence calculator. Too many people get a different date to actual. I am not sure that it asks the right questions.

you're completely giving the correct answer, mate.
I was in a similar case, and has been indicated back to a date I was in Australia 4 yrs ago.
