Applying for ETA after WHV 462 expires

Hi all,

I'm new to this site and hoping that someone will be able to give me some visa advice for my current situation.
I am American and have been on a Working Holiday Visa (462) for the last 9 months. My visa is due to expire on December 1st and I would really like to do some travelling after this date as I have been mostly working while I have been here. My parents are also wanting to visit me in Australia so we can travel together, but wouldn't be able to do so until February.

I have bought tickets to fly to New Zealand on Nov. 27th and from there I am planning on applying online for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) to re-enter Australia as a tourist. I do not have a "no further stay" condition on my current WHV visa.
My return flight back into Australia from NZ is booked for Dec. 4th.

I would really appreciate any advice or experiences others have had with this. I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work, but I am also nervous about not being allowed back into the country especially if my parents have already bought tickets to Australia for February.

Thanks in advance for your help!

462 is not working holiday visa, this is a 417. Subclass 462 is a work and holiday visa .Key differences are in the type of specified work that can be undertaken in order to qualify for a second 462, or 417 visa with one notable difference being the availability of Tourism and Hospitality work to 'unlock' a second subclass 462 visa.
It would not cost you much to apply for the visa you have ib mind, so you might as well apply and see what happens.
