Hi all

It's now been almost 2 years since we applied for our 820 temporary partner visa and still no word from DIBP. We applied for the first stage on 15 February 2017. Now my question is, is it not possible to start the application process for stage 2 as I've seen stated pretty much everywhere?

I've tried doing this through my immi account and it states that we do not meet the prerequisite visa requirements - I'm assuming since the 820 hasn't been approved yet. Then how are we supposed to start stage 2 if this is the case? Has anyone else been in this situation before? Will it let us only apply from the exact date as I've seen that other people have submitted it up to a month beforehand?

If you are already 2 years from when you applied for your 820, then just upload more evidence showing your ongoing relationship. You won't be able to apply for the 801 because in essence, you did when you applied for the 820/801. Additionally, it's the 2nd stage and you haven't cleared the 1st stage yet. More than likely, you will receive both the 820 and 801 when they finally process it. So, as I said, may be a great idea to upload new evidences on your 820 application. If your police checks are past 12 months, redo them. Then, send an enquiry asking if they need anything else, as you're now at the # months mark. Hopefully, that will prompt them to process your application and you get both visas granted. Best of luck!

Thank you very much for the response Lady Rogue.

It's still a little confusing though. I know you effectively pay for both when you first apply but there is a clear second application process that you have to submit on the website called "Stage 2 - Permanent Partner Visa Assessment". You can't get approved for PR if you haven't applied for it. From everyone else's posts it sounds like they are two clearly separate stages - I haven't seen anyone else get both the 820 and 801 processed at once.

How would you go about sending the enquiry?

In the mean time we'll start uploading the new evidence which we've been collecting but I assume this means we'll be uploading this twice now - now to the first stage and again for the second stage process.

You only pay for the sc. 801 visa. There is no fee for the sc. 820 visa.

Both visas are applied for at the same time. If you meet the time of decision requirements for both visas, they may be granted one after the other.

It is not unusual for a sc. 801 visa to be granted within minutes of the sc.820 being granted, if you meet the requirements for the permanent visa.

Hey everyone,

This is a bit of a ‘how long is a piece of string question’ - so tell me how stupid I’m being if you really want (ha ha).

My second stage is currently showing as ‘initial assessment’ (in the application status section). It has been 8 months since I put all of my documentation in for the second stage (801, PR).

Anyone that has been approved (or is further than me on the process). How quick are you finding it’s going from here? I’m hating this slow burn, it’s driving me maaaaaaad.

Also, has anyone found that they skip steps? I haven’t had any communication for extra information or anything.

Thank you!
