I haven't lived in Australia for 15 years and while I do have a bank account here I don't have a job.

I still have a job in America though.

Will I be approved as a sponsor for my husband when we come to live in Australia based on my tax returns from America or will it be based on what I have in Australia.

If so, how much savings would be considered enough to sponsor my husband. And can my savings overseas be counted.

Also we are married overseas so is it faster or cheaper to choose Partner visa or Prospective marriage visa (we can marry again here if need be)

Is there one where the total cost is less?

We have been together for 5 years and married for 2.5 (so I believe he will be able to apply for permanent residence without waiting the 2 years?)

Thank you all for your help! What a great resource :)

Happy New Year to you all

You don't need to worry about money/jobs for sponsorship...that isn't an issue in Australia like it is in the US. However, soon, people will have to apply to be a sponsor first, as the law passed a couple of weeks ago. If you get your application in quickly before it comes into effect, that shouldn't be an issue. Just be aware that it will be coming into effect at some point that the sponsor has to be approved first, then the applicant can apply after that.

You will need to do a 309 or an 820 visa. You're already married, so you can't do the prospective visa. You shouldn't need to wait at all. Either way, since you've been together for 5 years, when you apply, your spouse should go straight to PR. They both cost the same.

Best of luck!
