Hi all. I applied for my daughters citizenship by descent back in October. I am American and her father Australian. I submitted the app with the identity check signed by her doctor, passport photo, her birth certificate, my identification, and her fathers Australian birth certificate. I also wrote a letter explaining that her father has no in immigration status in America as I was asked for that information in the acknowledgement letter even though he lives in Australia. My question is, has anyone ever known this type of application to be denied? I’m wondering if I’ve done something wrong as it’s now been 5 months with no word. I know the current “processing times” say 4-6 months but when i applied back in October it was taking 59 days to 4 months. Then as the 4 month mark approached they changed the estimated processing times. It’s really frustrating... should I be worried or is this just the usual?

That's what I figured :) it's like a never ending waiting game! Thank's for the reply.

Lodged mine back in November (for my son...)

I did my daughter's one back in 2016, basically the exact same application (the same doctor even endorsed the photo), and her's was approved in a matter of weeks.

Super frustrating that the times have blown out...

Hello,
Just wondering when you all applied for Citizenship by decent while in USA, did you have to go to Washington or was it all done online and submit scanned copies?

since you mentioned it is like a 5 month wait for it to be processed, if I have to fly with my daughter in November to Australia, I should wait and not apply till later and just fly with her US passport? then apply after we come back?

thanks

For the citizenship application everything can be one online and just scan documents. Once your daughter is an Australian Citizenship however, she will be required to enter and exit Australia with an Australian passport and the passport itself DOES have to be applied for in person. I know I personally need to go to Washington for that part but I'm not sure if you can apply for Passports at some of the other Australian consulates around the country..

I finally got a request for evidence last week after 5 months. They need my husbands Birth Certificate to prove that one of HIS parents was an Australian citizen at the time of HIS birth.... Even though both his parents were born and raised in Australia, his birth certificate does not say that so I'm kind of worried now...

I applied for my daughters passport from the consulate in New York. Didn't have to go to Washington.

Hi
Great thanks for letting me know.
however, since the process looks like it takes 4-6 months, if she was to get her citizenship she would then need an australian passport.
what if the process was still going? it would be fine? If I wait say 3 months then apply for her, since i dont really want to risk applying for her citizenship then passport to have it ready by november. might be cutting it close.

I'm not really sure... I would imagine that if she has not been approved for her Australian Citizenship yet then she would be able to travel to Australia on her American passport.... but that's really a question for the embassy I think.

Quick update: My daughter finally got her citizenship application approved. 6 months and 7 days later. Not sure what the hold up was as she is an infant and her father was born and raised and still lives in Australia. Hopefully they get it together over in Washington.
