My partner is currently on a Bridging Visa A. We are planning a holiday this October to Vietnam. To my understanding, it will be easy enough to obtain a BVB a few weeks before departure.

We are then planning a trip to USA in February. The BVB travel benefits expire then expire in Dec/Jan. And from what I understand he remains on the BVB without travel benefits.

Are we able to apply again for BVB to travel in February? Is there a different visa to apply for? From what I have read, it is difficult to extend BVB's for longer than 3 months.

Hi Jade,

It all depends on how long you apply for and how long gets granted.

Some people get granted 6+ months but yes if you need to travel again after the travel period has ceased then you can apply again.

Granting of BVB is at the discretion of immigration so I wouldn't book flights until you know you can leave.

One of the requirements is:

"you have substantial reasons for wanting to leave and return to Australia while your substantive visa application is being processed."

So I don't know if they would grant it for 2 holidays.

I've needed the BVB for international travel for work and had no problem. First two were for only 3 months, then the last one was issued for 6 months. Just filled out the form, and wrote a letter explaining the need to travel with lots of supporting documentation. Enjoy your holidays!
