Hello all,

I just recently applied for the de facto partner 820/801 visa and my notification letter states that the bridging visa was granted.

HOWEVER, because the ETA that I traveled into Australia on has not expired, there is a note down below on the grant letter that states the bridging visa is NOT in effect because my ETA is in effect.

I am only logically guessing, but I suppose that means I am not able to work? And on the same token, does that also mean I can not apply for Medicare yet?

Thank you for any information or assistance with my confusion!

Good on you for actually reading the entire grant letter. You'd be surprised how many people do not.

I'm sure you also read that you'll need to apply and be granted a BVB if you need to leave the country as the BVA does not come with travel rights.

As ampk said, the BVA goes into effect once your current 3 month stay on your ETA expires and you are still onshore.

You are eligible to apply for Medicare the day you applied for the 820/801.
