Hello All!

I applied for the 801/820 partner visa in Feb 2018. After much consideration and with advice from a RMA, I decided to cancel my student visa, which then cancels my Bridging Visa A. Therefore, I will be put on Bridging Visa E.

My questions are for those of you who have had similar situations going from one visa to the other:

1) Does the Overseas Student Health Cover continue to provide you coverage after your student visa is cancelled? If not, what health insurance did you register for?

2) Can you apply for Medicare on Bridging Visa E? I know you can do it on Bridging Visa A, but after cancelling your student visa, I think it renders BVA null?

Thank you all in advance for your help! :)

1. No
2. No

Are you certain that it was a RMA who advised you apply for a cancellation of your student visa?
Hello,

Thank you for your reply - could you elaborate on your responses of No's?The poster above seems to think it's ok as long as it's a valid visa?

Yes, I had an appointment with one of the registered migration agents recommended through this forum.

Did the RMA advise you to cancel the Student Visa? or did they explain the issues around cancelling a Student Visa?

Electing to go onto a BVE (I think you actually have to apply for it it is not just supplied as you cancel a visa) is a VERY LAST resort.

Hello ampk,

I received advice around the issues around cancelling a student visa. The RMA neither suggested nor warned against electing to go onto a BVE. The reactions I've gotten from you are worrying me now, though. I know that there is a work and travel restriction, but is there something else that I've missed about the BVE? Will it impact my 801/820 application? Thanks so much for your time.

I've never heard of a BVE affecting another application but it does create a break in your residency towards citizenship, so that 4-year clock would start over from the moment the BVE is issued. Usually it's the travel and work restrictions that are the most difficult for people to live with if they have financial needs or need to suddenly travel overseas.
