Hi,

Im at the stage of submitting our EOI for 189 visa. I have completed my skills assessment etc and was feeling very confident until a day ago when someone commented my 4 year old may not pass the health requirement as she is Partially sighted. It never crossed my mind this would be an issue as she is very independent and apart from six monthly eye tests her health is good and condition is not one that will change.

Her nursery did have extra help with supervising her in the past school year however there was a debate whether this was for my daughter or just extra resources her school enjoyed having. She is very intelligent, active and we have never viewed her sight as something that should hold her back or create a difference.

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCE OR ADVICE?

I have read that the health thing has to do with how much strain the person will put on the health system, which I believe the general number I've seen on this forum is $40k over 5 years though I've read $21k over 5 years in other forums as well.

They don't expect applicants to be in perfect health, so don't stress too much. If you're truly concerned, speak to a registered migration agent that specialises in health issues and medicals for visa applicants. I believe at least two frequent this forum but someone else will have to tell you which agents they are.

Seek professional advice about the likely cost of medical treatment, classroom support and other costs. In making a decision, Australian immigration will assess the likely lifetime costs. If you have not lodged a visa application, I suggest that you do not do so before you have been properly advised about the medical matter.
