Hi everyone
Haven’t been on this forum for a while now
I have started my journey here to get a 309 visa then on my 100 visa. This forum has been there for me throughout that journey
Since then my 2 children have also joined me here and we are all PR and enjoying our lives here.
The next stage for us is to apply for citizenship.
We have met the criteria and I am now looking at the application process and checklists and what documents are needed.
I’m telling you it brings back memories when I was doing the 309/100 visa
So my situation is this me and my daughter 12yrs old will be applying online while my 16yrs old son will have to apply on separate application online on his own.
First of all is this correct?
If someone in here has gone through citizenship journey can we share some thoughts please.
Would like to know how long process is generally and what’s it like in general...
Looking forward to hearing from you
Cheers!

From what I know the 16 year old applies in their own right therefore they need to meet the residency requirements on their own. So for example if they did not join you until March 2015 then they are not eligible until March 2019.

Out if curiosity were you in Australia on a different Visa before you got your 309? Your time line indicates that you are not eligible for citizenship (under the current rules) until the end of the year.

Hey Mish
Thanks for your input
I was just thinking that myself about my son
He’s entered Australia Dec 2015 so he won’t be eligible as you said Dec 2019.
I entered Australia with my 309 July 2013, received 100 Dec 2014.
I’ve read the website and they said the new law will start July 2018.
So I was actually going to spend today and gather all the documents they wanted and if I can apply now
I’m kicking myself about my son but if that’s the rule then so be it
Advice please..
Happy Anzac Day!!

Ahhh your time line must be for the 100 and not 309, it always good to double check.

Apply now for yours. They haven't put any new rules to parliament for voting yet that I have heard of but who knows when or if it will happen.

With the documents you need to supply there is also a form that needs to be submitted by an Australian citizen who has known you for 2 years who are of a specific occupation.

Hi Ria,

Applying for citizenship is very easy compared to the 309/100 process.

The most difficult part is, as Mish points out, finding someone of a suitable occupation who is an Australian citizen. They need to know you for 2 years and will complete a declaration that they know you. My wife took free English classes at AMES when she arrived so she knew the teacher for a long time and she gladly agreed to fill out the form.

If you read the Home Affairs website they mention legislation is changing in July. I'm expecting they will start debating in Parliament soon but no law changes as yet. If you apply now you will be processed under the current rules.

I believe waiting time depends on your location. From what I've read on this forum, NSW has a longer wait time compared to other states and it varies from council to council.

Good luck with your application.

For 1195 form, the person has to know you at least one year, not two year.

Thanks everyone
How many citizens should I include? 1 person 2 persons
Also when they ask you to list all countries you have been to since you were 18, what if you don’t remember it all especially dates?
Can you write approximate dates?
I am up to that page in the application form..25 more pages to go
Yeayy...

Only one person,
You can send an email to DIAC with "Form 1359 - Request for international movement records", they will send you a completed list all your in and out Australia record in about 2-3 weeks time. Just google form 1359, the email address is on the first page.

Just one citizen but they need to be someone from the approved list (not every Australian citizen can sign the form. Also they cannot be related to you by birth, marriage or de facto. So even though I am an Australian citizen and have an occupation on the approved list I cannot do my husband's because of marriage, however one of my friends can do it.

In regards to travel not to or from Australia check your old applications to what you wrote as it should match.

Hi everyone just a quick update I’ve submitted the application on 16 may 2018. Received the auto reply of application received or something like that. No news so far. Does it usually take this long for the next response? If they want something else from me do they email me? Or do I hv to keep checking the immi account. I do know tht the process is long so I’m just wondering if what I’m doing is correct and basically I’m just waiting. Thank you !!

Hi Ria,

For your next step you'll receive an email from the department. It'll be your test appointment. I'm not sure what will happen if they require more documents. Just to be on the safe side, keep checking your IMMI account.
All the best to you and good luck.

Also, below is my timeline:

Paper application – 10 March 2017
Test email – 13 Jun 2017
Test appointment – 13 Sep 2017

Import application into IMMI - 26 Mar 2018
Online approval – 16 Jun 2018
Approval letter - 25 Jun 2018 (dated 16 Jun 2018)
Ceremony invitation – TBA
Ceremony date – TBA
