Hi All - I know this has probably been asked and answered 100 times already, but me and my partner are now only submitting our 801 application so next steps and citizenship as on our radar - (eligible for 801 in Oct 2017)

Have the laws been passed for citizenship changes?
The 4 year PR requirement will commence from 1 July 2018?

I am reading articles about proposed laws, if passed etc. so am unsure.

Thanks - Jess

It got rejected in is current form. (Edit - blocked would be a more appropriate word then rejected).

Dutton will probably try again.

Will be a matter of keeping up with the news until then.

I'll edit this post with a link to the thread we had about changes as there's a lot of comments and info in there (suggest you start a couple of pages from the end as it's a long thread.)

It would be a foolish minister to mention anything citizenship for a while.

Expect the next topic to be back to refugees and power outages on Manis, Dutton will be busy.

Dutton wants it to come into effect from 1 July 2018. What he wants and what he gets may be 2 different things. He needs to amend it to get enough support for it. At the moment they won't support it as one thing is that it gives too much power to the immigration minister.

Keep an eye on any changes however even if there are changes if Labor win next election I imagine they would reverse it as Tony Burke ia very much against the change.

Thank you all for the replies! This gives me some comfort, I would hate to be so close and then have the citizenship line move further away.
