I mailed out my application last week and arrived the next day in Washington D.C. I am curious how the CO will contact me.

So I am asking all of you who have applied or are applying how did your CO first contact you?

I'm just nervous waiting! I know it can take a few weeks before the CO makes contact.

Our first CO at the Washington office contacted us by email to say that she was going on leave. When she got back she resigned. That put things a bit behind!

Our CO after that was DL, he was fast and efficient. All contact was by email.

All up the whole process took 3 months, but that included Christmas and New Year. Yours should be a bit faster, although it depends on how good your application is, whether anything gets lost, and what their workload is. Truly, I know its not easy but the best thing is just to forget about it and get on with life.

Good luck!

That is what I am trying to do, but my fiance is just as impatient as I am, lol. He really wants me there for my birthday in September (The 29th).

I had everything that is needed except medical. I was advised to wait. Thank you for your reply! :D

The official stance on offshore visas if you wantto call it that is to wait until requested in regard to doing a medical and character check.
The FBI can be eight weeks or more if you havn't moved on that.
But re the medical, if you're confident you meet eligibility requirements and if time is of the essence, I'd be doing the medical now.
Then you may have an outside chance of having the visa long enough before September 29 to organise a flight etc. if all goes well.
If you wanted to go earlier, you could always go on a visitor visa, advising the Immi people of that and then when they advise your visa is ready for granting, have the fiance take you to somewhere like Noumea or Bali for a holiday or early honeymoon.
You could even go to Oz and get married and if it's a PMV you have applied for, notify Immi and it'll be treated as a spouse visa and that would save a double application.

I don't know who has given you that advice but when we did it we didn't wait to be asked for the medical. I think from memory that we timed the medical so that it would arrive at DIAC about a week to 10 days after the application did. You can tell from the tracking number when it gets there safely and they just match them up. I'd be doing it now since time is an issue for you, and if there is bit of a wait for appointments to see the panel doctor best to find that out now, rather than later on.

The application I used said specifically to wait until a CO requests your medical and criminal checks.

If you don't, you risk them expiring before the application is accepted, or at least shortening your window for initial entry to Australia.

Of course if your application is processed swiftly, having the medical records there does help it happen.

Thank you everyone for your response.

Wanderer I've thought about visiting while the visa was in process and is still a possibillity. The FBI report was the first thing I got done since it takes a while.

Mallory I had called the Australian Embassy in D.C. I cannot remember who I spoke to, but he advised me to wait until my CO requested medicals. I'll call the panal doctor and see what he/she has available.

Really? That's interesting, we did ours in 2008 and frontloading was not discouraged at all. Things must have changed. You have to go with what they tell you then I guess, and hope for the best. At least there are no US holidays between now and the end of October (are there???)

I remember that there is a little bit of a wait after the medical for blood test results to come back, before they can send everything all together to DIAC. Hope all goes well for you. We are now 2 years down the track waiting for PR processing, but I can remember what an anxious time it was and how easy it is to worry over every detail....we are waiting right now to be allocated a CO, what a relief it will be when it is all over!

If its any consolation those long months apart make it all the sweeter when you can finally be together every day.

You will find more often than not that embassy Immi people or Immi people in general will always toe the regulatory line, sort of covering the backside.

I was told by my case officer that the medicals and police checks are only valid for one year. So from my visa being granted (anytime now!!) i will have until the date either my medicals or one of my police checks is 12 months old to enter the country...so if you frontload then that time is shorter but it does speed up the overall timelines.

Hi!

In my case, all communications from the CO are done thru email.

My family and I had our first medicals right after I lodged our application. Unfortunately, one year has lapsed (yes it is only good for one year) by the time our CO formally requested for the medicals and police clearances (this too is only good for one year). Thus, we had to go through the medicals all over again!...I think, it's best that you wait for the CO's advise.

Love delight, do keep me posted on the progress of your application. My application reached the DC embasy approximately a week after yours.. so am assuming timelines will be similar.. :)
