Hello!
My husband and I are in the process of starting to apply for the 820 Partner visa. I'm from the United States. Ive been in the country 70 days and have about 20 days left until the ETA visa says I need to leave again. We plan on applying for this visa in a week. Once we apply does that mean I can stay in Australia and don't have to leave (like the ETA visa says)? Would there be a bridging visa? My ETA is valid for a year but only lets me stay here for 90 days at a time. I really don't know much about the regulations for this visa. Please help! Thank you!

Apply the 820 - DO NOT LEAVE!!!

You will be granted a Bridging Visa A That allows you to stay.

After 820 application you can get Medicare.

After your 90 days expires your Bridging Visa A comes into effect and you have full work rights.

(all subject to a recent law change being brought into effect) then a few issues may apply - but no-one knows so don't ask.
