Hi all

Relatively new to the forum...just sent away my skills assess today to Engineers Australia so we can apply for our general skilled migration visa. However, just wondering if anyone else knows much of the situation where employer's are looking to sponsor skilled construction workers to help with the rebuild following the floods and Yasi etc. and this being fast-tracked by immigration?? (I'm a site engineer & my partner is a plant operator/plant manager) This would be a preferable route for us as we want permanent residency eventually & citizenship - so just trying to find out about this?

It's anybody's guess as when this might start up for with experience in construction, you'll probably appreciate there are going to be a few steps involved, ie.
. assessments by assett owners
. determination of repair or rebuild/relocate etc., all involving considerable planning and associated property acquisitions etc., that never being something too quick
. any major projects will need design and tendering.

So work by any construction companies could be a ways down the track, the government very conscious of its splurging of $$$ reputation they do not want to enhance.
Some work will already be underway by assett owners and at the end of the day, the whole infrastructure rebuild is a bit more political song and dance than reality.
It is not as though there is a list of shovel ready projects with companies lined up without employees.
