Hi,

I am planning to migrate to Australia and i have already submitted the EOI. I am a software engineer and my points for 189 are 60 but due to the increase in number of applicants they are only inviting people with minimum 65 points in my category.

So my agent suggested me to go for a 489 visa and ensures that i can get a PR after two years if i fulfil the requirements of 887. My only concern is what if when i move to Australia on a 489 visa and there are some changes in rules or let's say the 887 visa is discontinued so will that be for new comers only or will it effect people already living in Australia as well?

Also should i go for the 489 visa or should wait for my turn in 189 only(if that happens)?

The answers will be much appriciated.

Thanks,
Bikram

It is very unusual to change the rules that much. The 489 is a recognised pathway to PR. Even if they decided to change the rules later on one you had your visa they would likely have a transitional pathway in place so the 489 visa holders could still progress to PR.
