Just like the title states, my partner and I will be getting married while our application is processing. I asked, she said yes and that's that. Pretty neat!

Anyways, we are submitting at the end of this month (for sure this time!) and we will be getting married in February, I suspect. My partner is quite keen to change her last name to my last name almost right off the hop. How does this effect our application? Since it will happen after it's lodged, do we just notify the department of her name change and her new passport with said last name?

Congrats on the engagement Eh!

I was also wondering how it works with changing name after marriage coming from a PMV to 820 in a short turnaround time? Documents/ID etc?

Sorry to hijack the thread - thought I would ask in here as it is a similar scenario ;)

Pretty sure if you are not married at the time you lodge the 309 application, then you will have to give adequate proof of at least 12 months de facto relationship instead. So depending on how long your relationship has been and whether or not you have enough evidence to prove de facto, may be better to lodge the 309 after getting married instead?

I suppose I should have clarified, but my partner and I have been living together for almost two years now, so we aren't worried about evidence, we have heaps. Application is damn near done.

I was just asking because we'd like to get married sooner rather than later. I'm just wondering about her changing her name and it effecting the application. No worries though, it doesn't appear she can change her name whilst in Canada anyways.

Savage - all good, no worries. I would imagine (at least in your case) once you're married and apply for the 820, you just let the department know you've married and that your Mrs has changed her last name. Pretty good little bit of evidence of the relationship if you ask me ;)
