Just thought I would say hello to everyone - I am new to the forum :)

I am planning on going to Oz for 12 months (minimum) September/October time.
I will be 25 at the time and travelling on my own, first stop Sydney!

Nice to meet you all and look forward speaking to you!

Luce :) xx :p

You've got a while to get organised Luce and that's good for it gives you a bit of time to plan a bit.
Have a look in the Travel section for various threads including Sydney and it does seem a magnet for visitors and extracting $$$$ from them.

Have a think about your travelling in terms of where for best weather and for a bit of a $$$$$ killing, if you're coming on a WHV and plan on being in Sydney for a while if you find some work, do think about making it for six months and then you can qualify as a resident for taxation purposes - have a look on Australian Taxation Office Homepage and that can mean quite a few thousand $$$$ staying with you or getting them back from the tax man.

Enjoy your time and travels.

By luck or a little planning, a start in September/October is pretty good re the six months in Sydney as long as you get work and at least it'll give you a couple of months before warmer and muggier weather kicks in, more activities then too so a better chance to get work if there earlier.
Sleeping With The Enemy could be a site that'll interest you re longer term accommodation and some networking re finding work.
Possibility of finding like minded people to flatshare with or check out Classifieds ? Gumtree Sydney Free Classified Ads ? Gumtree Sydney Online Community or Flatmates.com.au - Australia's biggest free site for flatmates, share house, share accommodation in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
www.sydneyterraces.com maybe another option worth considering.

The one thing you do need to do though is get an accommodation back-up plan in place for the Xmas - NY period in Sydney because it gets crammed and with booking usually opening about June/July for a minimum week, you could find there'll be little choice if anything on arrival in September/October and so if something more permanent was not available re the enemy or Gumtree, you'll be up a tree.
I'd be thinking along lines of booking a week early [maybe with just a deposit is possible] or being prepared to use a tent and then by October if you have something permanent, you could always cancel.

After six months in the one spot for the taxation advantage, you can then think about travelling as it'll be coming on to better time of the year to head for tropical north, inland and even WA.
If you start thinking about doing three months regional work so as you'll be eligible to get a second WHV, Broome from April/May could be good re getting some well paying work in Oyster harvesting.
