Hi guys,

My name is Valerie. My man and I have recently applied for a partner 309 visa, so I decided to join this forum to share my experience and journey as it progresses and I'm really interested to read about others experiences too!

I am Australian by birth and my partner; Warren is from New Caledonia. We have been together for 2 years and have a 1 year old daughter together who is also Australian. Warren and I met in Brisbane when he was studying at Griffith University. We both worked in the same restaurant. We fell in love and spent every day together, but his student was soon to be expired so he had to return to New Caledonia for a minimum period of 2 years before he would be allowed to return to Australia to work. (he is still allowed to go as a tourist) This is because Warren was under a scholarship and the agreement that was signed under the terms and conditions of his scholarship was that he return to his home country for 2 years, otherwise he would have to pay the full amount of his scholarship back, which is $176000. Clearly that is too expensive and we do not have that kind of money so we decided to do long distance. A week after Warren had returned to New Caledonia I found out I was pregnant. I needed to be with him for emotional support, so I visited New Caledonia very often for long periods of time, until I was no longer able to fly as I was too pregnant. Warren came to Australia for 3 weeks to be there for the birth of our beautiful daughter; Blue. A few weeks later Blue and I flew over to New Caledonia so we could all be together as a family.

Blue and I do not hold a French visa so we go as visitors. We have to leave the country after 90 days, so every 3 months Blue and I go back to Australia for 2 weeks to visit my family and friends. As a visitor in New Caledonia I am also unable to work, so we are living under only one income and even if I could work, I do not speak French very well yet so it is very difficult for us.

We have finally applied for the partner 309 visa on 8 April 2015. Our Application has been sent to Suva in Fiji and we are currently waiting to hear from a case officer
