Hey all! I've been a long time lurker here as my Australian fiance and I decided on a visa to pursue, then started the application process. We met in an online game, knew each other for about 2 years, then finally met this last October and got engaged in December. Now I'm back in the States while we work on and lodge our PMV application online.

So, just wanted to say hello and thank everyone for all the helpful information we've already been able to utilize, and express what a relief and comfort it is to know there are people out there that know what going through this is like :)

Hello~!!
Seems like you might be someone in a similar boat to me; I met my partner online too, but we haven't spent nearly as much time as you have. We only 'met' in December 2014 and met in person 2 months later. Now he is in the US and i am in AUS applying for the 300 visa and digging around the internet looking for information...
how are you guys going?

Hello Shmiffy! That's so exciting! Every day I feel so lucky for that technology that allowed me to meet my fiance even though neither of us had ever visited each others' countries, or even met in person until October :) It's nice to know others in similar situations that have made it work or are still going through the visa process and understand!

We're still waiting for my FBI background check to come back then we'll be lodging our application online. Last time I checked it was still taking 12-15 weeks for them to get it back to you unless you use a channeler, which the website for the Australian Embassy in Washington DC sadly said they won't accept. :( We're still feeling pretty positive though there are certainly days all the waiting and uncertainty get to me.

This forum has provided us with so much awesome info, hopefully it's just as helpful to you guys as well! Hope things go smoothly and quickly with your visa process :D

Hi!

I am not sure why the embassy said they don't accept channelers, because they do. It might be that the information has not been updated?

There are 3 approved channelers you can use and they usually have the check back within 5-7 days compared to the FBI 12-14 weeks!

Figures :( Yeah, the website specifically says no channelers which must be out of date information. Oh well. Got my FBI check back today so that info. doesn't help me, but hopefully it does others!

Would it really be that difficult to keep websites up to date concerning things that can have such an impact on people? :p /vent

You would think that they would update the website but clearly not! Lol

Thankfully there are forums such as this one to keep us up to date though! :)

Channler? what is that? how do you get one?!
Please tell!
From the FBI website: "FBI-approved Channelers receive the fingerprint submission and relevant data, collect the associated fee(s), electronically forward the fingerprint submission with the necessary information to the FBI CJIS Division for a national Identity History Summary check, and receive the electronic summary check result for dissemination to the individual. An FBI-approved Channeler simply helps expedite the delivery of Identity History Summary information on behalf of the FBI."

You can find a list of FBI approved channelers on the FBI site. I'd link it, but it says I'm not allowed to post links to other sites until I become an Active Member :p

Hi Blissian, can I ask you how long it took to get your FBI check back? my husband submitted his a few weeks ago. I knew about using channeler but husband took the long way around going directly to FBI for the report. Hoping this will be all wrapped up by October - which will be 1 year since we filed 309, and 3 years since we met. Waiting is hard, Skype helps. Best of luck!!

I sent in my fingerprints in late January and only got the check back yesterday, almost 4 months to the day later, Skype definitely does help! Don't know what we'd do without it :D Best of luck to you guys as well!

That's not too bad, 12 weeks - sounds better than the 18 I've seen quoted. But all in good time I guess.

Hi Shmiffy.

If you search this forum for approved channelers, there are a few threads that list the 3 that have been approved by Immi.

You can use them to do your FBI checks as the wait time is far less than directly with the FBI.

Hi Emily, I'm filing for the 309 or the 820 as I married my husband on my latest visit to Oz on a tourist Visa. We've been together for 8 years and finally decided to tie the knot. I Met my husband who is an Aussie online on a movie forum, lol. Goodfellas to be exact. :)

That's so awesome! I like that meeting your spouse online is no longer such an anomaly. I've still gotten some funny looks from people when I've said we met online, but far more people seem to think it's really cool. That support (or any support really xD) helps, especially as we're going through the visa process and are so far apart.

The best of luck to you two!

I wish the best of luck to you as well. Keep me updated. Its an unnerving process to go through with so much riding on the decision. Completely nerve wracking! I get the same weird looks but I pay them no mind, lol. Not as much as I used to get them though.
