Hi everybody

Here is my story, your help would be very appreciated. I am from Africa and I will graduate with a Master's Honours in IT soon. I am married and my wife is offshore (Africa). My student visa will expire soon so I am considering applying for visa 485 or 885 (I have 140points). However my main concern is the processing time. Both 485 and 885 have a long processing time. If I apply for visa 485, can I add my wife as a partner once the visa is granted and then wait for her arrival in Australia to apply for visa 885? Is the NO FURTHER STAY condition applied on partner visa of visa 485 holders? if yes how to waive it? Thanks for your time.

you will not be able to add your wife if she doesnt hold a student visa. my wife was on a visitor visa with out 'no furhter stay' and they didnt accept my wife in my 886 application. a student visa dependent or a student visa are the only way...hope it helps...

Thanks very much yamahamoto, my student visa will expire in 1 month. Can I still apply for a dependent visa for my wife? If not can I apply for a student for my wife and wait until she gets here and then apply for visa 885 for both of us? Also what do you think about apply first for the 485 visa and then bring my wife on a partner visa? Thanks for your help.

if u can apply a student visa for ur wife and wait for her to come over and apply for 885 then it wud be the best. i dont think they will accept ur wife for a stuent visa dependant as ur visa is expiring soon. personally i dont think u have much time. see a migration agent to sort out the best route. my wife is appealing her onshore student visa application right now and i havent got my PR yet. hopefully i get it by the end of the year. good luck to u

Thanks yamahamoto, I spoke to a migration lawyer who assessed our profile and told me that my wife and I are eligible for PR. But he didn't advise me on how to bring my wife to Australia while the PR application is processed.
Can I apply for a student visa for my wife with a TAFE course? A university course will be too expensive to afford at the moment. Also can you tell me if I can bring my wife on visa 485 (as a partner) and then apply for visa 885 as soon as she is here?

anyway u can as long as she comes here on a student visa, even TAFE wud do(important note: not on a ELICOS student visa type, refer to immi website for more details). i didnt go through 485 so i dont know anything about it and im not qualified to say anything. my situation is a mess right now so i hope no one have to go through the same thing. bringing ur wife here on a eligible visa is the most important thing right now. once she is here you can sort out if u want to apply for 485 or 885.

I really appreciate your help and support. I am also in a big mess. It is hard to understand why it is so difficult to bring a partner to Australia even with an Australian degree. I will keep you updated about my case. Please send me a post if there is a new development with your case. thanks
