Hi all,

we're not really new to Australia given I and my partner been living and working here for 4 and 5 years respectively. I am from Taipei, Taiwan (not to be mixed up with China or Thailand:D). Graduated from Monash with Master of Marketing degree in 2010. My partner is from Graz, Austria (not to be confused with AUSTRALIA- there's no kagaroo in AUSTRIA:D) he works for a motor vehicle company as an engineer. I have always had a job until recently I was laid off - not the best timing but oh well, that's life.

But anyway, just want to say hi to everyone. Being a foreigner here is never easy especially when you need support from family. As we both are here without our any other family member here, so we're each other's only family member. It is tough sometimes, so anyone who has the similar situation- we feel for you and you are not alone. That's probably why I signed up to this forum, probably in a hope to find people out there with similar circumstance and knowing I'm not alone. Most of all, I found lots of discussion on this forum are very useful! I will certainly need advice when I apply for de facto visa in April next year.

I'm on TR visa at the moment which is due to expire in Oct 2013. We actually have been living together for almost 1.5 years so far but we didn't have any concrete document to support the fact when the one year requirement was fulfilled in March this year, otherwise I could have applied for it back then. Realising there's so little concrete evidence we could prove to immigration that we have actually being living together since March 2011, we started colletcing all sorts of paperwork from April 2012, including bill in joint names, both names on the lease, joint bank account etc. So I'll submit my application in April 2013 when I have sufficient evidence .

Best luck to everyone ! Even thought life here is not all that rosy and perfect, it can be even harder without family and close friend's support, but I believe we choose to be here for a reason. I wish it works out for everyone!

Oh if you happen to be from Taiwan or Austria, we'd like to know you. we rarely come across our country people here

cheers, Ni-Hao & Grüß Gott

Rachel

Haha. That's an awesome mix, and a very rare one. Welcome and have a fantastic time. Both countries are tiny! You would have a better chance meeting Taiwanese people here than Austrians (Ostreich?). Good luck.
