It depends on the document.

But you can bet your ass that if a previous document contradicts something that it will resurface and bite you on the bum.

Migration agents must keep a client's files for 7 years. I imagine the Department keeps them much longer than that, if not forever. Older files can be found in the National Archives.

Immigration backscan the paper applications into their system so they will be kept electronically for a long time, if not forever.

Thank you. I was hoping they would keep them forever because I always try and refer to old applications.
