Non-English speakers can now find information on how to access interpreting services in Australia more easily, it has been announced.
Australia is a magnate for people from around the world but not everyone is highly proficient in English so now TIS National, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection's Translating and Interpreting Service, has added more information in different languages to its website.
Content is published in the most in demand languages in Australia, which includes Arabic, Dari, Farsi (Persian), Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Tamil, Traditional Chinese, Turkish and Vietnamese.
This service, known as TIS Multilingual, will help non-English speakers in Australia connect with businesses and government, according to TIS National's acting director, Rockiya Pirova.
She said that it is important that non-English speakers can access information, in their preferred language, on how to find and use TIS National interpreters.
"This facilitates improved access to vital government and non-government services and will enrich non-English speakers' experience living in Australia,' said Pirova.
She also pointed out that TIS Multilingual also has the ability to convert web content to speech and this will improve accessibility for all visitors to the TIS National website and make it easier for the entire community to access information about TIS National services.
Text to speech is currently available in Arabic, English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Traditional Chinese and Turkish.
TIS National is an interpreting service provided by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection for people who do not speak English and for agencies and businesses that need to communicate with their non-English speaking clients.
It also provides a variety of interpreting services, including a 24-hour immediate phone interpreting service for any person or organisation in Australia who needs an interpreter for the cost of a local call.
