Hi!
I am looking for some guidance here! Thank you in advance for reading and responding. I am American and I am hoping to go to and visit Australia with my boyfriend. I am 29 and he is 38. I am currently enrolled in a TESOL Australia program and should finish prior to trying to come and can hopefully get a job teaching English. If not I would be finishing a practicum in Australia and finding alternate work. I am looking at the visa options an I am not sure which one I would qualify for. I was thinking the 457 or the 417. For the 457 would you have to have someone sponsor you, or could you come with the intent of working? Also, coming with my partner is important! Any and all advice is welcomed.

As an American citizen you’d be looking at a sc. 462 visa, not a sc. 417. The sc. 457 requires a sponsor . The whole sc. 457 visa stream will be replaced by new visas in March 2018, so a Work & Holiday visa may be the better option in the short term.
