So I've been here in Aus for about two weeks now staying with my girlfriend. I planned on applying for my working holiday visa after arriving. But when i went to do so today i saw that a requirement is you have to do it from OUTSIDE of Australia. We're pretty distraught over this honestly...we'd planned on me getting the work visa so i could get a job save for a partner visa together. Is there any way around this? Having to fly back to America to do the application and flying back here seems a bit ridiculous to me. That's thousands of dollars down the drain. But in the end it's all on me for not doing enough research i guess. :(

I could be wrong, but can't you go to New Zealand and apply?

"First Work and Holiday visa - you must be outside Australia when you apply for this visa." Note it just says "outside Australia" and not that you must be in your home country. You can be anywhere in the world as long as it's not Australia.

Now, where it gets expensive is you don't know how long it'll take to grant. It's possible it can be a few days or over a month.

And US citizens aren't eligible for the Working Holiday visa, only the Work and Holiday visa. Two different visas, two different subclasses, two different requirements for second year.
