Hi

So I want to ask if anyone knows

If my girlfriend came here with daughter to Australia on tourist Visa for 3 months to complete 12 months relationship etc

Can the daughter go to daycare. Assuming she has all required vaccinations

If not or if so is there a way I can claim legal guardian for any benefits or have to wait till get the bridging Visa

I think you're misinformed on this.

Might just be me (and please don't take offense to this) but why would you need to place a child in daycare when the mother is in Australia as a tourist? To me, and again, it may just be me, but that makes it look like she will be working and needs someone to care for the child.

It sounds like you're talking about adopting the child. I also don't know that a bridging visa comes with any parental right on your partners child.

This sounds too complicated and I think you're misinformed on a few things. You should speak with a RMA about your situation.

Ok. Uhhh

No more 1 or maybe 2 days a week.

Exposure to other children her age and English was my thinking here.

I'm not talking about adopting but more assuming the role of a legal guardian of the child.

This can be done normally by a relative etc.

My assumption was I can't because she Is non resident.

I get it one side of it, sure. When my kids get here the youngest will be in before and after school care to meet kids her age as well, so I get that. I was thinking out loud, on the "why would the child need to be in daycare when the mum isn't working" part. No intention to offend.

Not sure how it works here, but back home my wife wasn't a permanent resident and wasn't able to as she was only there on a working holiday visa.
