Hi all,

I can't seem to find the answer to my situation in existing threads but please feel free to point me in the right direction.

I currently hold a WHV 417 due to expire at the end of the year. My fiance and I moved to NZ in April but have decided that we would like to go back to Aus for a couple of years (NZ just isn't for me unfortunately!). I can't finish my job in NZ until the start of Dec and would like to go back to the UK for Christmas/wedding dress shopping. I will return to Aus with less than a week to go on my WHV and I will meet my fiance back in Aus at this time. I want to apply for the 461 in Aus before my WHV expires as I have no desire to stay in NZ any longer, especially not for 10 months or so while the 461 is being processed.

I am worried about entering Aus with such short time remaining on my WHV and so was thinking of handing in my 461 application on my way from NZ to London at the Sydney visa office early Dec (you can only apply by paper application annoyingly!). This would mean that hopefully my visa application will be acknowledged (and therefore my bridging visa A granted) by the time I return from London at the end of the month. Hopefully this will make immigration easier with less explaining to do as although my WHV would be expiring in a few days, they should also see that I have an application lodged for the 461. I saw in a post from a few years ago that they don't actually accept applications by hand but there is a box that you can place your application in which means less chance of it getting lost etc. I think I would rather do this than post it as I would know that it had arrived and the date (especially in the busy lead up to Christmas). Not sure if I would be able to get proof of drop off?

So, I wondered how long it takes to get the acknowledgement/BVA when applying by post? Would I be likely to receive it within 2/3 weeks? Also does anyone know whether this would be sent by post or email? I'm quite nervous about the whole thing due to the tight timescales but I can't think of another way round it. I am already on my 2nd WHV so no chance of extending that and skilled visa takes too long to apply for.

Thanks in advance for your help :)
