Heading off with my 3 kids on a cruise and we all need passports (had to get 2 new ones) as we are going to the South Pacific.

All very strange because in immigration's eyes we are not offshore - I shall think of that in New Caledonia and Vanuatu while having a beer at a bar off the ship.

Unfortunate when people try to renew their 3 months by cruising to New Caledonia and find that they are unlawful months later though.

Looked at the drinks package - when doing the booking there was a discount rate of around $70 but it was per person per day and only the first two got the package the other 2 get nothing $2,240 for the 4 of us.

Even on the ship to buy a single package is $89 per day ($712) with 3 shore days, so if you don't get off the boat - it is 16 beers a day or 3 bottles of wine a day to break even.

I don't need any encouragement, so will buy as we go.

Hey man, sorry for the delayed reply. Yeah, I believe we did. The ship anchored in the middle of the sea and sent over boat loads of people at once.

We got on a bus there and had a crazy driver who was doing a solid 80k through dirt roads. Quite the experience. The island itself was beautiful, save for the feral dogs that would literally steal food off of the bbq of the merchants. All in all, a good go.

If I remember correctly, we had the drinks package as an add-on for booking with 8 people. That said, it had been a good while for this guy to start and end a day with a nice cold beer. Worth it too.

We came up big on the pokies as well, damn offshore casinos haha. If you get a chance, there's a claw type machine where for $2 a go you can win a stack of notes. Give it a go. The wife and I all but cleaned it out when we went.

We got a nice calm lady for a 2 hour drive was great. Yes great island.

Don't play pokies but did donate on 2 nights to the casino mostly blackjack.

Our total bill on board was call it $3,000 Casino donations, photos, lobster and fine dinning & duty free took as best I can work out 1/2 that - so $1,500 for two adults and 2 kids no restrictions drinking.

It is a shame people can not use this as a way to get offshore for a visa decision - but the slow internet on the boat would hurt. ( we only got 24 hours for kids homework - very very slow).
