Hi all - this is my first post.

My husband is Australian/British. I'm American. We have lived in England together since 2006. We have five children - ages 23, 20, 16, 12 and 6. Four from my previous marriage and one of our own. My first husband died in 2005. I remarried to my Aussie hubby in 2006. Our youngest child was born in 2008. Hubby adopted the other four children in 2009. Our Important Documents box has more passports/nationalities than James Bond and the 'should we move to your home in Australia or my home in America or stay in England or live on the moon' discussions have been going on since we met. Ugh.

A decision was finally made but not after a false start and a rise in the visa app fees. Used to be able to add the children to the app for free but since sometime in 2013, each child has an extra cost. My application has three of our children on it. Youngest is Australian and our eldest, as much as I am dying for her to come, is 23 and at the app time was happy living and working in London (that has since changed- *deep sigh*) so she was not added to the visa app.

We applied offshore in London on 27/06/14 - just scraping by before the 10-14 month update. Phew!* Our CO is VF who said to expect 8 to 9 months. We have been in Sydney since Sept 2014 on a 12 month subclass 600 visa which is essentially a tourist visa i.e.; no right to work etc. We are required to be offshore for the grant to occur so will have to leave the country when that happens which hopefully is within the next few weeks.

Does anyone know: If the visas take longer when there are children included on the application?* How the process works for those of us who are waiting onshore but applied offshore, i.e; How much forewarning will we be given to organise flights to leave, will this delay our processing?

These on-line communities are a godsend. Very hard to communicate with and get answers from the powers that be but it is wonderful to connect with real people and read about their situations. This has been a long, hard road for us so far. ALOT more expensive than anticipated and we had some setbacks as well (UK shipping company Global Moving Systems stole ours and many other customers' money without shipping the goods so we had to pay another company £3,500 more to retrieve our belongings from their warehouse and have only just received our shipment a few weeks ago after a five month wait).*

The 'life is on hold' feeling we all have is so unnerving. The unknown. The waiting. The emotional and financial toll. My visa terms don't allow me to work so that's been really hard as well. I am a singer, choir leader/conductor and freelance writer. I really miss working. It's better to be together in the same city though. In the long run, I am convinced that this move will make for a wonderful future for our family, but let me say that getting on the emigration train is Not. For. The. Faint-of-heart.

Good luck to everyone. I feel for you when hearing about all of your highs and lows. You have my utmost respect and good wishes.

Arrived in OZ on 12 month tourist visa - 17/09/14

Is there anybody else out there who applied later than me in June 2014 from London? I recall that 27th June was a Friday. Don't know if they count the weekends or not, but the last application date in the 8-9 month range would have been on the Monday, 30th June. I remember that we nearly didn't get it in (we went a bit overkill on the evidence). Would have been kicking ourselves had we waited a few days and ended up in the 10-14 month range.

Jmac, the reason is that the process and the experiences vary widely from embassy to embassy. So there are threads for specific embassies so you get information (and can commiserate with) people who are going through the same process as you are. :) For example - the wait for a 309 from Kenya or Pakistan or Bosnia-Herzegovina can be 18 months or longer, but the wait for a 309 from, say, Berlin is more like 6-8 months. And the embassies handle the process very differently. That's why general 309 threads don't tend to last long - people seek out other people going through the same thing as them.

As an example, if you talked to someone applying from the US they'd tell you it was just fine to apply for a visitor visa while you're waiting out the 309, and that your CO will let you know when to get offshore to get your visa granted, and it won't delay it (it's true in almost every embassy). But if that information was given to someone applying through India, they'd risk delaying their application by several months if they didn't time their visitor visa correctly.

Just my two cents! :)
What a great forum, I hope I can get some answers too.
My partner overstayed and he is currently on Bridging Visa C.
Our agent told us that we should prepare for refusal (sub 820/801). So we have decided to go to Europe together and apply for 309/100 visa. He has been in Australia for couple of years now. I am not sure where should we apply Berlin or London, he is Polish, but we wont be staying there for the whole time.
Would be great to be in contact with people who are applying in the same time.

Dear Jmac01,

Thanks for the concern for those who are waiting for partner visa 309/100 offshore as you do.
I am one of you, and applied just before 2 weeks, less than you are waiting!!!!!!!

I am in Kenya, my wife and daughter in Brisbane, QLD. I am thirst for their reunification and wanted it to happened as soon as tomorrow, if possible, I know it is not.

I am worse that Kenya is a high risk country.

Wish you soon grant of visa:):)

Got the surprise of my life today when I got an email saying my partners visa has been granted!! He is on a plane to the uk at the moment to visit family but the CO was kind enough to email me unofficially as well. Was so excited. We applied offshore, online from NZ on the 1st Sept. So 6 and a half months (someone in NZ processing has been doing a terrific job!). Thank you so much everyone in here for the help and good luck for everyone else!!

Congrats Hodgi That's great news!!!!
Did you have a condition that your partner could not enter before you? When we activated the visa, upon entering Australia, the IMMI officer at the boarder said that the computer system was asking if he was accompanied by me (sponsor). Just thought I would mention it , in case you're not planning to enter together! Also you have to go through the counter not the smart gate :)
So glad you guys got your visa, congrats!!

Umm I'm not sure to be honest. We've been in Aus since Christmas and he has only just flown out to Scotland. So he shouldn't have any problems with that. I'll mention the counter bit though :) thank you :) :)
