Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone has gotten any Visa grants for a 309 that is from Syria?
Would Love to hear your timeframe as there isn't many discussions about Syrian applicants.

I have been married for almost 1 year now and we are living together in Syria till my wife's Visa is granted. I put an agent to do all our paper's and we sent pretty much all documents the agent asked. We even did the medical for her even when they didn't request it. The agent asked me to send every document in one go. I even sent them proof of a rental application that we are living together in the same appartment and signed by the mayor of province Tartus

We applied start of Jan 2019 and been now waiting a bit over 8 months, and no contact, email, interview, nothing! Don't even know if their looking at our application yet

The Agent told me that the last Syrian female application he did took 9 months for a Visa grant. Could it be that because we are living together is why it's taking longer? Could it be because they wan't to focus on the people that are not living together yet so they don't end the relationship where the people living together takes longer because they see they are already together? I know also it's a High Risk Country, but so are so many other countries which have been getting their Visa within 9-12 month frame.
I don't really wan't to cross the 1 year mark only because so we don't have to do the medical exam again as it is a 4 hour drive to Damascus. But not only that, just more for safety concerns as there have been increased activity of Israel strikes around Damascus

HI Debby,

There is a forum for people (like myself) who have applied in Africa - Partner visa applications in Pretoria... South Africa (https://www.australiaforum.com/visa...sa-applications-pretoria-south-africa-74.html). All visa applications in Africa are processed through Pretoria, South Africa. Unfortunately it can take a LONG time for the visa to be granted.

At the moment people from South Africa have received their visa recently after waiting 14 to 17 months. I just reached 11 months waiting. But the good news is, there have recently been a couple visa's granted to people from Southern and West African countries ... including one to a Nigerian.

Sorry to not have better news, but you have at least a 12 to 14 month wait - but probably closer to 17 to 24 months.

thanks so much the wait is not easy.but i was thinking since my application was lodged in by an agent in australia, then it will be treated in australia instead of them bringing the application to south africa to be treated.

Had an agent( not registerrd though) who said applicant visited austrlia twice and some pic were attached which is enough to proof as a genuine relationship and he apparently not willing to attach anything.
Not sure what else we could do but 25 months waiting! We had our whole world stopped for this. Not sure about other ppl but its giving a sort of depression now a days.
Did you attach copies of flight tickets etc., as proof?
Pictures alone may not be considered enough proof.

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum. I am currently awaiting to sponsor my wife to whom is overseas in China. We're applying for the 309/100 soon for Aus and although reading the requirements throguh the department of immigration we still feel a little bit unsure on how to write/structure our individual relationship statements. We have know each other for quite some time so it may go over a few pages + we're unsure how to start with a greeting etc.
If anyone has any experience with their relationship statements being granted please let me know. It would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

P.

Hi Debby,
Welcome to the forum. The median processing time for Pretoria is 331 days in 17/18 fiscal year. Unfortunately this data is not still available for 18/19. More details about median processing times can be found at:

Having an agent in Australia does not make any difference to the place of lodgement. The agent can be anywhere in the world, however, the application is lodged by yourself and it is treated as such.

However, RMAs in Australia are more knowledgeable and ethical. Therefore, you may have an edge in comparison to others applied by themselves or through the agents in other countries.

Thanks, How would i find that root cause whereas they dont reply except "work in progress"? Can you share me any phone number? Applicant has no child but sponsor does have . All police check report provided ok. Anyone got any experience about the ombusement?
Only practical way for you to know the exact root cause for the delay is to politely ask the AHC. There is a possibility for you to view your file if you request it under the Freedom Of Information act. That may cause further delays and also not sure how appropriate that type of action would be.

Alternatively, if you list the details of your application and other related issues, more knowledgeable people on this forum might be able to guess the root cause for the delay.

Also, a good RMA from this forum might be able to work out the causes for the delay.

Another twist in our application.
Someone on behalf of immigration called to the marraige registry office to check Nikanama.
The office is located at remote and still not computerized. While on the phone they had miscommunication and eventually the old man said we cant find that file. Immigration suspecting a bogus document provided and asked for clarification .The dicument is Genuine for sure and they find the regisrty office also found that file.
Question - what should be our approach? How do i comvience them they can call the office back to verify the dcument is Genuine or not. Misery of life continue .

Hi Agbalusia,

I applied offshore, but not Nigeria. We lodged in late January 2019 and I completed my biometrics upon request in May (about a month after the medical was done). At the same time, I gave some additional info related to background checks.

I am also still waiting to hear and have heard nothing so far. I know it's not much, but you aren't alone in your frustration!

That is a real problem. It may not be easy to convince the AHC to phone again since AHC may rightfully presume that the small remote registry office can be bribed to say the certificate is genuine.

I can think of few options.

1. You and your partner can make statutory declarations to the affect that the certificate is genuine and forward to the AHC, explaining the situation.
2. Engage a 3rd party (e.g. a reputable law firm in Colombo) to independently verify the genuineness of the certificate and forward an affidavit to that affect to the AHC.
3. Try to get a letter from the central registry office in Colombo verifying the genuineness of the certificate and forward to the AHC with an explanation.

I think you really need professional advise.

Hello, Kenya has an Australian Consulate and processes for some west african eg Ghana and also for the East African community. Sadly Pretoria, in the time I've been here processes super slowly compared to the Nairobi Consulate especially for Naija peeps. Also, the Pretoria consulate does interviews where they go to different countries and ask people to come to them for interviews. Nairobi just sends email with grants or Further information requests.
It might be a long wait or it might not be, but prep yourself for a year's or more worth of wait.
It used to take on average 8 months but now it's going on a year almost for me and other people processing through the Nairobi consulate. With the processing time on the rise, the waiting time goes up as well.
Having an agent is good coz you'll probably need to push for communication, at least that's the look of things from the Pretoria thread.
The comments above are all made with observation from reading the Nairobi and Pretoria thread.

Yes, it does seem deliberate. If I had a choice I wouldn't want to uproot my life from community and family and career here to go start anew. But it is what it is. If anything I am always hoping my husband will one day retire and we can move back home to Africa. 😭

How much days required for visa grant after interview?
This depends. Some people get the grant very quickly after the interviews. Some may wait for a long time. This depends on the complexity of the case and your processing AHC. What is your AHC?

Apparently, Nikah Nama is not recognised in Australia. Check this:
