Now, regarding the downturn of the economy and cutting visas, that makes sense for perhaps temporary skilled visas, WHV etc but not for family partner visas. The government has not even once announced that partner visas will be paused due to the risk the new migrants will constitute and they considered those who have 309/820 as a returning resident.

Any country in the world, including germany, Uk, norway, etc, have mostly paused temporary visas grants however, they continued to process family visas due to its critical need.

I agree. I even feel they're speeding up the 309s where possible. The waiting times have dropped since last year and now with other immigration being delayed, allowing more spouses in will soften the economic blow of reduced immigration.

What a beautiful comment!!!!

All i can say, God bless you
Agreed! I think banning travel and processing visa files are two different things. They can ban the travel but they have to process the files. I am sure immigration officers are waiting to go back to work just like border security.

Hi All,

My partner has applied for 309 visa last year. She is with me in Australia at the moment on visitor 600 visa. She needs to exit on 6th June but due to current Covid 19 situation, she can't do that as flight is cancelled. I am in the process of applying for on shore visitor 600 visa to avoid travelling at the moment.

My question is does this new visitor visa 600 will have any impact on her 309 application?

Seen most of the posts here, relax!

If anyone has any special reason for exemption and fast-tracking processing time, it would've been our case but we chose to be patient and find a way around it.

I am one of the registrar doctors in a major COVID centre hospitals, dealing with sick patients with corona since Feb. I have to put on PPE many many times that I've lost the count. I am socially isolated in Melbourne as my parents are from overseas in China. My wife is European and we lodged the application through the Guangzhou Australian consulate in Dec 2018, we've been waiting for 18 months, RFI'ed twice in Sept 19 and Nov 19. Due to the COVID19, and expiry of my wife's previous 600 family sponsor visa, my wife had to move to China, the epicentre before the outbreak, and then relocated to her home country in Europe subsequently. We were living far away from each other with hours of time zone difference. When we were so desperate and missing each other, we just applied for the new 600 visa in Feb 20, and only got approved in Apr 20, and exemption on the second day. We had to plan amidst all these travel bans of different European countries so that she finally managed to fly here from Stockholm - Doha - Melbourne.

My point is, if you think your partner is safe in his/her current country, then stay at home, to avoid all the risks on the plane and in the airport and trips.
If you think your partner's current residential area is dangerous, then apply for 600 with exemption. Australian government is reasonable, they will help you wherever they can. However the previous 309/100 visas were processed in the consulate where you lodged application, and are now all allocated to Queensland partner visa processing centre for those where the overseas consulates are closed. Queensland centre has almost a whole globe of applications to process, so please be patient. The people who approve your 600/exemption are not the same people in Queensland, so they will act quicker. If you worry, get your partner here, ONLY if his/her current state allows their own citizens/PRs out.

Yes she can apply to another tourist visa and it doesnt impact on her 309. Immediate family are exempted by the way coming inside Australia.

Hello..
We asked our case officer for visa options and she gave us the link to the exemption form. I was wondering whether we can apply for the exemption with our 309 still being processed. Is such a thing possible?? Or do we need to have another kind of visa like 600 or the sponsored family stream
it seems that we can't apply for an exemption without holding a visa,we thought to apply for visitor visa as well, however the biometric center in cairo remains closed.

only if they already hold a 309 or similar visa.

A visitor visa holder would need to apply for an exemption, and show compelling reasons.

There are many refusals for these exemption applications.

You could just create a thread on this forum specific to your visa type and nationality/lodging office.
