Hello,

My partner (Italian citizen) and I (Australian) want to apply for a partner visa. We currently live in the U.K and have been together for 3.5 years.

We were looking into onshore applications initially, but it seems difficult and long (evisitor to bridging visa a/820 etc). So we were thinking to go traveling while we apply for the visa offshore.

Can we apply for the 309/100 visa route from any Australian embassy (ie. Singapore), or does it have to be a country where she is a resident or citizen (UK or Italy)? Do we have to stay in the country of application while it is being processed, or can we just apply at the embassy and then leave the country and travel around for a while? Do we need to go back to that country when it is approved?

Thanks,
Marcus

Thanks for the reply! So ALL partner visa applications (820/801 and 309/100) need to be applied through the same online link now?

So if we wanted to be offshore when we applied, we can just do it from wherever, and keep traveling while it's being processed?

Correct, the changes were made last month. 309/100 can only be applied online but you should be outside Australia.

You may choose to travel around the world (including Australia) but at the time of visa grant, you need to be outside Australia.
