We are applying for my husbands visa offshore from USA. Once it does get granted, how long do we have until we have to move to Australia? I have heard mixed answers - some say 6 months to 'activate it' by entering the country and 5yrs to actually move, others say 1 year from police checks. Does anyone know for certain?

Also, any other USA citizens applied for a partner visa to Australia and can give me a rough estimate for how long it took to get granted?

The first entry date is based on the expiry date of your visa medicals and Police certificates, whatever comes first.

You'll want to keep an eye on this thread. It's for offshore US applicants and it can give you an idea of current wait times. Based on some of their posts, it was around the 11 month mark of waiting but that can change by the time you apply and are in the queue (hopefully faster!).
