Old Legal Issues and Working Holiday Visa

Hello,
I am about to be 29. I have always wanted to spend a year on a working holiday visa in Australia. I understand that the cutoff age for this visa is 30. I have skills that make me worthwhile to allow in and even have Australian friends that can vouch for my character. However, A little over 10 years ago I was convicted of some pretty serious felonies. My suspended sentence was over 12 months, but I served through probation. Some of these charges were violent. I was 17 and 18 when it all happened and just a stupid angry kid. Since then I have been on the right side of the law and have had no legal trouble short of two speeding tickets. Is there a statute of limitations as to how long I would be denied a visa? Is there any way to contact anyone in immigration directly to hear my plea? I feel like if it is truly a matter discerning whether or not I will cause trouble then someone may see that I would not be a risk. I intend on being honest when applying. Any and all info is appreciated. Thank you.

All you can do is declare all offences and include a submission addressing the circumstances of each offence and how you have re-habilitated yourself. Also provide any relevant material from the court case, probation officers etc. Get some character witnesses ( employers, family, government officials) to provide affidavits. Then wait several months while your application is being considered.
