Hi All,

I am in the process of getting everything together to submit my application for a defacto visa.

I was just wondering, because of the length of processing times, is it best to hand in the medical with the application, or should I wait to be asked to do it? Obviously I would like to be as quick as possible but I don't want to have to pay to get it done again if my application isn't processed within 12 months.

Also, I am required to get a police check from a country which requires a letter from immigration before they will send off a police certificate. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they put in their application to let immigration know this (e.g. just a brief note stating that to get a police check a letter is required)?

I think you and I have had a convo before on the forum about this but here it goes.

They say the application takes up to 9 months onshore. this is speculated in the letter you will receive from immigrations however I applied for my visa on the 7th of April 2011 and it was approved exactly 2 weeks after the application was submitted and I am from a high risk country. (My case was also complicated because my partner and I have not been living together for the full 12 months, hence the reason we registered our relationship).

I believe it was approved so quickly because in my application I included more evidence then they asked for.. ie.. they ask for 3 x declarations from family and friends, I got 6. loads of photo's (with descriptions and dates on back), phone bills in my name at my partners address...etc.. I even printed out one of my Optus bills and went through and highlighted my partners number (showing them how many times and for how long we chat)...

I included my medicals, both my South African police clearance, my Australian police clearance (cause iv been in AU for 13 months) and my partners police clearance.

I think they speculate 9 months to include estimated time frames of requesting additional info from you and the time it takes to give the documents back...

My suggestion is give them everything and more... then hopefully yours will also be approved within days/weeks..

I disagree with you winikd.

My onshore application we submitted way more than we needed similar to your application and we have been waiting for 6+ months.

I would recommend doing the health check with application. We decided to wait until they asked us. It went on 5 months and we wern't even given a CO so we decided to do the health check in the meantime.

The health check has currently taken 2 months and we are still waiting.

Your medical has taken 2 months? I did mine at the Medibank office in Sydney and had the immigration envelope ready to submit 2 weeks after I had them done.

I believe some are luckier than others but I defiantly think they factor in the time frames of requesting documents, medicals, police clearance vs the time they expect you to get them back in... my personal opinion...

The way I see it, you need the documents to get your visa.. do them all.. submit them all together and get them out the way.. it surely helped my visa

when you say "approved" do u mean PR is granted? or just that the temp visa is granted?

I mailed my application to Brisbane office as I am from Tasmania and it is the place I meant to be sending it to with no choice. I think Sydney office get visa done faster than Brisbane office from what I have read other posts. I have been waiting for 2 months so far. I have submitted everything at once and heaps of evidence. finger crossed and hope my boyfriend will get his visa soon.
