I am currently in the process of writing up statements and gathering evidence for our de facto visa application. I was wondering if anyone knows if its advisable to write the statements in first person or third person? For example instead of saying things like "During our trip to New Zealand we stayed with (names) family" or is it better to word things "During the couples trip to New Zealand they stayed with (names) family".

About a week before submitting our statements read "name and name at" then after reading all through I thought it sounded ridiculous so I changed it to "this is is at".

I would use first person. You are writing it after all. Sponsor and applicant should each do their own statement.

We have written our own statements regarding our relationship history, however for each section i.e Financial aspects, nature of household, social aspects etc I have written a general statement to cover how each of us divide responsibilities of that topic. So I'm unsure as to whether I should word it like "Name and Name pay equal amounts the rent on their rental property" or if it should be written from my perspective (the applicant)

We changed all our statements or explanations of evidence to be written from our perspective. I felt that having "name and name on 'date' at 'event' with..." felt cold and basically not real. Writing it from each of our perspectives made it feel more personal.

Was most of it generally written from your perspective given that you were the applicant? My issue is, and it could just be me over thinking, is that as I am the applicant and therefore the one writing most of the visa, I dont want it to seem as if my partner has had no input into writing it. For example in each of the statements it feels strange writing "I do this to contribute to the household, and (partners name) does this and that" As if it is just me that has written everything. Not sure if that makes sense outside of my own head!

We understand what you mean but keep in mind the sponsor has their own part to fill in from their perspective.
So while it feels one-sided once the application is complete it ties it all in

As Nick said above, you both need to do your own statements, in your own words.
