My son is on a partner visa. He has been granted the first stage and has applied for the permanent part but this could take months.
He and his partner have put an offer on a house which has been accepted. They have the mortgage approved but now the lawyers are saying that there may be an additional surcharge for buying the property as he is not a citizen or permanent resident.

Has anyone bought in Queensland while waiting for the permanent partner visa and if so did you have to pay this?

Are there any agents that may know?

Needless to say, time is critical!

A respected RMA pointed me in the direction of a colleague of his who informed me there is a 3% stamp duty on people on temporary pr visas. I don't have access to the messages at the moment, so it might be wrong. I'll dig it up tomorrow.

Late here in Canada.
