Hi there,

My partner and I are looking to apply for a Partner Visa.

I am an Australian Citizen and my partner is of European descent.

She has just arrived back in Australia for her second time on a tourist visa and we are looking to apply soon. However I have a question...I might have to go and work overseas soon for a long period of time. How will this affect the visa application? Will I have to remain in Australia while the visa application is being processed. I know it can take a long time for the visa application to get processed.

Do both parties have to remain in Australia?

Any information anyone can share would be helpful.

Cheers,

A little light on any detail to help much.

How long have you been in the relationship that you can document?

How long have you actually lived together?

How long exactly is this long period of time overseas?

It will help to expand on the European country of the passport they hold.

No, there is no requirement that either party needs to remain in the country, though you'll need extra evidence for the time you are apart.

I can see all sort of potential issues with this, but it would really depend on the actual circumstances, the strength of your overall relationship evidence and your ability to maintain a relationship and a joint household, while you are outside Australia.

We have been together over a year and a half now.

We have lived together for 6 months in Australia, 3 months in Finland and she is here for 3 months now on a Tourist visa.

She is Finnish and I could be working overseas for as long as 5 years - but that depends.
