What are some ways that people gave proof of communication whilst being apart? Screenshots of text messages? Chat log screenshots converted to pdf? Did you give all your chat logs or just bits and pieces from every month? In total how much communica Evidence did you show? If i compress the file to reach the 5mb makek and the quality reduces will that cause an issue?

I took screenshots of one conversation per week. Some of these were brief conversations, some were more in-depth. I included ones that I felt were important such as discussing future trips, future plans, the wedding, some that I included were just us asking how work/our day was etc. I've read that some people do monthly. It just depends. I put all the screenshots into word and then created a few PDFs (there were a lot of screenshots) and if you reduce the quality it can become hard to read. From memory I played around with that a bit to find the right balance between size and legibility but depending on how many screenshots you have you may need a couple of PDFs. We had one for each year, just make sure they're clearly labeled. I also put the month as a heading so that it was clearly laid out.

my wife and I started our relationship online, so our period of separation was before she arrived in Canada and before we were de facto.

We included a few screen shots of messages to and from each other as well as post cards that we had sent each other with dates and postage stamps.

It’s easy to go overboard with this, but if you can, select the messages or pictures that hold the most weight and have the most meaning.

We pasted them into a word document, resized them, numbered them and included a small description as to what the evidence was in a table of contents.

I agree with Eh? about the meaning part. It's a good idea to show a few that show you emotionally supporting each other, talking about future plans, talking about family or going on holiday, etc. Shows more depth to the relationship than just communicating in general.

We downloaded the messages into Excel or Word (whatever it went in to - I can't remember) and then just used conversations of importance for example: discussing wedding plans, discussing future plans etc.

Immigration needs to see more than "I love you", "I miss you" etc.

I'm in similar situation, trying to include evidence for periods of separation. Mine are like 3-5 years ago though. Facebook is quite annoying for this, it won't allow me to search messages beyond ~2 years. I don't know if I can manually scroll through 150,000 messages -_- browser will probably crash.

What about giving them a big dump of Facebook chat log? They allow you to export it to JSON

We mostly have used WhatsApp for communication so I exported the entire log from WhatsApp which ended up being almost 900 pages. I then copied 10 messages from every 10 pages to show continued communication. Converted them to PDF. Did the same for the hangouts and calls. I also submitted screenshots of important conversations to show our discussions and support of each other.

When you say you this, visually does is it look like just lines of text from a big chat log you guys exported? If so were immigration okay with it in that format?

Not doubting either of yours sincerity, i'm wanting to do the same actually, but thinking from an immigration perspective; wouldn't they question if this was legit evidence because anyone can just type whatever they want in excel/word?

I mean, if we're going down that train of thought, someone could fabricate every piece of relationship evidence if they wanted to.

I haven't had an approval yet but I did it based on other people's experiences posted here.

It was mostly in word and just lines of texts (but also with screenshots). But I explained what it was, why I presented it the way I did and offered to submit the entire 1000+ pages of communication evidence if they so desired to see it! As it was, my communication evidence of logs, screenshots, explanations and important conversations was almost 100 pages long. I very likely over did it and in my next visa application I will not be submitting so much. But hopefully my CO doesn't hate me too much for it heh.

Yes I suppose someone could fabricate an "entire" relationship, but I think we can both agree; sentences on a word document are probably one of the easiest things someone could fabricate. I'm of course not suggesting that anyone here has done so or should do so, but my worry is that if I include it in this way and the case officer thinks it's not good enough- apparently they don't have to give any second chances, they can just refuse it.

Wow! Fair enough, I like the idea to include some screenshots and offer the whole chat log dump if they want it.

Screenshots are just as easily edited as lines in a Word document. They have ways of verifying information so don't stress about it. The application is based on evidence overall so it's not all banking on your conversations alone. You're just showing you've been in contact while apart. Could just as easily use phone records of calls or emails.
