Hi,

I've read that you can skip the waiting period of the 820 if you can prove that you have been in a long term relationship for three+ years with documentation. Does anyone know what kind of documentation is required (yes i've read the immigration website and it isn't very clear) if for example marriage has not been an option (same-sex relationship). We have been living together for a year (lease) and have shared financial docs for about 18 months. We have registered our relationship in Victoria with the 5th of March 2016 as a start date, can this be used? Can we apply 3 years after the official starting date or 3 years after we started living together? Can we use personal communications, photo evidence and stat decs from family/friends as "proof"

thanks
Valentina

You don't skip the 820 waiting period. You make a combined 820/801 just like everyone would but a CO decides whether to grant you just the 820 or waive the 2 year period between application and PR eligibility and grant the 801 at the same time.

Registering the relationship doesn't waive the 3 year period. You'll need de facto evidence for that entire time if you want a shot at getting PR straight away.

If your only 2 years in you may as well apply now. There's no guarantees at the 3 year mark and your process will probably end up being the same length roughly.

The only difference is if you wait a year and they decide not to grant the 801 you just made your wait a whole lot longer.
